Album Description Formed two years ago, D4L (meaning down for life) has seemingly appeared out of nowhere to become one of the hottest, most innovative groups to spring forth from the dirty concrete of the Atlanta. The members, all representing from different Atlanta projects- Fa-bo, Mook-B, Stoney and Shawty Lo- traded in their street hustles to pursue a new kind of hustle: music... and two years later, D4L is an â~overnight success.â

Decline Of Humanity... April 25, 2006 19 out of 22 found this review helpful
First of all sorry this had to be long...
Out of all the hacks, out of everything in the recent years that has inch by inch destroyed hip hop and rap as we know it, these guys may have played one of the biggest factors.
Almost 20 years has passed since the milestone -Straight Outta Compton- by the now disbanded NWA. 20 years of pure gangsta rap straight from the heart played to all those who choose to listen to it. Then we had the rise of G-Funk and so called artists during the early 90's who proved to be up to par with true rap. We were given classics from Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg (his early stuff is much better than what you hear today), the late Tupac, Biggie ( I never really enjoyed Biggie, but hey, icon...), The D.O.C. (tragic that his voice got F-ed up), and many more worthy of being named. Remember the days where rap was enjoyed by many, throughout the nation (especially on the coasts)? The nation flourished (or not) with the praise and love for the music that was only deemed as classics by artists who would be remembered for more than one year.
How, from all of this, has humanity allowed such history to be destroyed, and this new modern bull to be allowed to ruin the legacy of a once great genre? If most of the alive forerunners of hip-hop/rap had the decency of their hearts, they should beat the living s*** out of each any every disgrace in this genre.
Already the title of this laughable group is enough to call it quits for a day as "artists". Your first glimpse of the cover on this immediatly-commercialized material tells you that each and every one of these guys, regardless of character, dignity, or intelligence, don't give a rat's a** about the rap game and that they need money to buy mansions next to Fiddy, along with big-rimmed cars, a bunch of lazy hoes, and the debt that they owe on unpaid online porn accounts.
The music, downright, is the worst part about this mess. In my high school there is this "rap group" called "Red Haze" that apparently were trying to bring the pureness back in rap. Apparently all the members, except one, are anoyying as hell, especially the Russian one (no racism intended). The two African American ones are alright as rap attitudes go, but the music they listened to consisted of The Game, Nas, Jay-Z, Nelly, Lil John, Dem Franchize Boyz (another hole in humanity), and these excuses. Soon the Russian started to bring a friggen computer speaker to school and hooked it up to his CD player somehow, instantly playing really bad rap and hip hop from the likes of 50 Cent to Eminem to Usher and Kanye West (whom I despise). Then when I thought it couldn't get any worse, on the bus when he got on he put some shuffle feature on and out of the speaker plays "Laffy Taffy", one of the most apparently enjoyed, overplayed, overrated, p**s-poor excuses for a track dedicated to rap. For some idiotic reason, everyone in the back dances like it's the new s*** and that it rox their sox. Everyone that is except for somebody I know as kind of a friend who likes Thrash and general Metal (old Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer/Anthrax) and other metal. He immediately stood up in f-ing anger and started to get in the Russian's face saying how s***** rap music is (modern rap) and how "Red Haze" was gonna be defunct because it is worth s***. More disses occured until the Russian pushed him and then got kneed in the stomach without the bus driver knowing. Now the Russian is back in Russia and "Red Haze" is defunct, and I couldn't be happier.
Anyways "Laffy Taffy" is degrading to anything that is in it or listens to it (the lyrics are something a perv can come up with). Everything that comes out of these guys mouths are degrading and the beats they blast are poor as hell. This generation (my generation) and coming generations are eating this like pizza and Jamba Juice, and we need to help wash this garbage away from the Swarm and show them true music. If you want real rap head on down memory lane and pick up anything from Run DMC, NWA, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, early Snoop Dogg, the D.O.C., Ice Cube, Wu Tang Clan, Das FX I think, to Tupac.
Let this dung ho rot as destiny intended...
I'm on board the 1-Star train. D4L is premium garbage July 22, 2006 19 out of 24 found this review helpful
I have had it with this garbage 'Snap' music. I'm really hoping that this is another flash-in-the-pan trend that won't see the light of day past 2006. As with Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L is a group of thugs that has no clue about to lay down remotely catchy beats or create even slightly intelligent rhymes.
"Laffy Taffy" is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. It may even be worse than DFB's "Lean Wit it", but not by much. The intro hook has the effect of someone hitting your head with a hammer while you're suffering a migrane, and the rhymes make no sense at all.
What is happening is that everyone wants to claim to be the first to have discovered or created a brand new style of music. If it's 'crunk' style hip-hop, then it really is revolutionary. However, this 'Snap' crap is atrocious, and D4L's and DFB's CDs need to find their way to the dollar bin at the local music store.
Ozzyapu is 100000% correct May 6, 2006 16 out of 22 found this review helpful
Id write a review but Ozzyapu wrote a top notch review. I just want to give this POS a lower rating that it deserves. Just pick up albums from the rappers he recommended and see why todays rap is garbage yet people go retarded about fiddy and mike jonez TI and paul wall.
Words can't describe..... March 1, 2006 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I can't believe someone would actually produce these clowns called D4L....they are THE worst rap group, it pisses me off because they suck so bad and are giving rap a bad name. Dance Music???? Their melodies suck ass, their appearance is so disguisting i wanna throw up, and who ever likes this group has no taste in music.
I did not listen to this album and never will January 7, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am a black man in his late 20's who has experienced to buety of true hip that was created before 1995...
So @ this point i must tell you that i am not a wigga nor am i a preppy black guy from the burbs (raw streets of Brooklyn, BiIchs)
Enough about me.. On to this album... I will never listen to rap again (other than classics created by NAS and Little Brother)
The song Laffy (...)Taffy has ruined my love for the art form that was @ once great. People have no concept of lyrics nor good music.
I thought whistle while you twirk and tah joint by tag team was bad. (...)disgusting.
Hip Hop is officialy Dead
this was more of a rant, not a review. But frankly, i just don't give a d@mn..
