Keep Foxy Lady, keep Hey Joe. Your going to hear some of Jimi's best work in this collection of songs. The guitar riffs will have your jaw drop. This collection of songs never got the recognition they should have. Maybe Foxy Lady has more commercial appeal. Who knows why? Get this if you like heavy duty Rock/Blues music played by a master.
HEY, IZABELLA! February 1, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
WAR HEROES AND THE CRY OF LOVE WERE THE LAST TWO "OFFICIAL" JIMI HENDRIX RELEASES, THEY BOTH CAME OUT IN 1970, SHORTLY AFTER JIMI DIED, BUT WAR HEROES WAS ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE TIME AS AN IMPORT. I HAVE A COPY OF THIS RECORDING SINCE I WAS TWELVE OLD, WHICH WAS IN 1971. THERE IS SOME GREAT, AWESOME GUITAR PLAYING ON THIS ALBUM. JIMI WAS THE BEST. PERIOD.
Best Hendrix You Never Heard March 2, 2008 This has to be one of the best-kept secrets of the Jimi Hendrix catalog, and up there with Electric Ladyland as one of my personal favorites. It has a little of everything, Jimi-style; from the psychedelic space-blues of "Bleeding Heart," to the almost Dylanesque semi-autobiographical "Highway Chile," to the outrageous stomp-box-testing instrumental "Midnite," to the wry and sly vocal-and-lick exchange of "Three Little Bears," to the straight-ahead rock of "Beginnings," to the multiple-guitar wizardry of "Stepping Stone," this album hits peak after peak, will leave even the most practiced air-guitarist utterly exhausted, and probably sent Stevie Ray home weeping.
Hendrix coaxed sounds from Strats and Marshalls that most if not all rock guitarists are STILL trying to figure out. Here are some great examples. If you are a Hendrix fan, and you find this album, BUY IT. If you already own it, BUY IT AGAIN!
This is the modified Experience of Jimi on Guitar and vox, Mitch Mitchell on drums, and Billy Cox on bass (except where it's the ACTUAL Experience with Noel Redding on bass for three of the songs). Most of these tracks have now appeared on the Hendrix family reissues, but not always in exactly the same form and, of course, not in this order.
