    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com
Eminem's four studio albums shattered so many sales records that you might think just about every man, woman and gerbil on the planet already owns a bulk of the songs that make up this greatest hits collection. But Curtain Call presents the perfect opportunity to have another look at the life of Marshall Mathers. Starting out in the vein of the Beastie Boys and Slick Rick, he grafted filthy verses over bubbly nursery rhyme melodies and primitive Casio beats to come up with comical singles like "My Name Is" and "Real Slim Shady." Then angst and reflection set in, resulting in rare moments of vulnerability ("Lose Yourself") and a richer musical experience ("Stan"). The three new tracks reflect the entire spectrum, with "When I'm Gone," a bittersweet goodbye letter, signaling the raw emotion and youthful enthusiasm of his early days have substantially faded, while "Fack" counters that the Detroit rapper still has the dirtiest mouth in the business. --Aidin Vaziri

    Album Description
The Stan's Mixtape bonus CD on this two-disc deluxe edition finds the main character in "Stan" bringing together his favorite Eminem songs. Among the seven tracks are two from The Slim Shady LP: the #5 Rap "Just Don't Give a F***" and the Dr. Dre & Mel Man-produced "Role Model." From The Marshall Mathers LP are "Criminal" and the Dr. Dre & Mel Man-produced "Kill You." The mixtape also includes two tracks previously unavailable on any Eminem album--the "Dead Wrong RMX" (featuring the Notorious B.I.G.), notably co-produced by P. Diddy; and "Renegade" (featuring Jay-Z), a legendary duet from Jay-Z's classic The Blueprint album. Also included on the bonus CD is "Sh*t on You" (featuring D12), which until now has never been released on CD.

The first disc of Curtain Call includes three new songs--"Fack," "Shake That" (featuring Nate Dogg) and "When I'm Gone"--both written and produced by Eminem. In addition, the Curtain Call bonus track marks the album premiere of the controversial Eminem-Elton John live duet of "Stan" from the 2001 Grammy Awards presentation.

Executive produced by the nine-time Grammy winner, Curtain Call boasts all five of Eminem's gold and platinum singles to date, from the platinum, Oscar, and two-time Grammy-winning "Lose Yourself" (#1 Pop/#2 Rap) from the 8 Mile soundtrack and platinum "Just Lose It" (#6 Pop/#7 Rap) and "Mockingbird" (#11 Pop/#10 Rap) to the gold "Without Me" (#2 Pop/#5 Rap) and "Like Toy Soldiers" (Top 40 Pop). The other Grammy winners included are "My Name Is" (Top 40 Pop/#10 Rap) and "The Real Slim Shady" (#4 Pop/#7 Rap). Also heard are "The Way I Am" (Top 30 Rap), "Stan" (featuring Dido) (Top 40 R&B/Hip-Hop), "Sing for the Moment" (Top 20 Pop/Rap), "Guilty Conscience" (featuring Dr. Dre), and "Cleanin' Out My Closet" (#4 Pop/#5 Rap).

Curtain Call: The Hits spans contributions from all four of Eminem's major-label solo albums: 1999's quadruple-platinum The Slim Shady LP, 2000's nine-times-platinum The Marshall Mathers LP, 2002's eight-times-platinum The Eminem Show, and 2004's Encore, which is almost five times platinum. The three most recent charted #1 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop, with his major-label debut #2 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop. Each of his first three albums also won the Best Rap Album Grammy (Encore will be eligible for the 2006 presentation). Eminem has to date sold more than 65 million albums.

5 out of 5 stars "When I'm Gone" 'nuff said   December 8, 2005

If you're an Eminem fan you have all of these songs already-- but the CD is worth buying simply for the single "When I'm Gone" alone. Eminem is known for riding the thin line between telling stories and telling HIS story, and he is never more introspective than in "When I'm Gone." Personally, I wish this CD consisted of more of those songs-- of the songs Eminem says he likes but not many else do (like "Rock Bottom" which never made it to a single). Instead he delivers an even mix of those ("Mockingbird," "Lose Yourself," "Like Toy Soldiers," "Cleanin Out My Closet," and "Way I Am") with his commercial "dance" hits like "My Name Is," "Real Slim Shady," "Without Me," and "Just Lose It." "Shake That" is one of the new songs that falls into that category, as is "Fack"...sort of..."Fack" is more like "Drips" than anything else, and I wonder what the clean version of the CD will have to compensate. Anyway, this dual disc version is the CD to get because Stan's Mixtape includes "Renagade--" the Eminem/Jay-Z song previously released only on Jay's "The Black Album." While all of the songs on Stan's Mixtape can be easily found on any downloading system on the net, it's just nice to have the tracklist all together. "Curtain Call" also includes the live Elton John performance of "Stan" as a Bonus Track, in addition to Dido's version so you can compare the two. Unfortunately, the live version is taken straight from the CBS telecast of the Grammys, and though the cheering and live audience has been removed from the track, it is still the "broadcast suitable" version and therefore bleeped. Eminem is a powerhous in hiphop, and "Curtain Call" is yet another chart topper for him. Hopefully he'll be back in the near future with new fresh tracks that sound a lot like "When I'm Gone" because that is definitely the stand-out of this CD, if not of his career in general.

5 out of 5 stars Oh Man Am I Ever Going To Get Bashed With This Review...   December 7, 2005

Alright. Something I will never understnad is why people who hate Eminem must insist on writing negative reviews as if they are going to convince fans. Look, just because you rate an album one or two stars, doesn't mean that you are magically going to change someone's opinion about music. The whole point of reviewing is to provide someone else who has similar interests to see if the CD is worthwhile. That being said, I'm sure that anyone browsing this CD already owns some of Eminem's previous CDs or has heard his songs on the radio. This is a greatest hits package, so every song that was on the radio or talked about in the media is on here. New songs are included as well, like "When I'm Gone", which is a great song. If you are a casual fan and dont want to buy every album and end up with a lot of filler, this is a good buy. Sure it's not ground-breaking hip-hop or even really "music", but its fun and different. Thank You...

5 out of 5 stars All Of The Popular Hits; STOP THE HATING.   December 7, 2005

If the newer generations want to experience Eminem, I think this greatest hits CD will do them justice.

It has all of the hits "My Name Is", "The Real Slim Shady", "Just Lose It", "Without Me" for the fun side of Em's Slim Shady personna. Then you have the darker and more emotional sides of Eminem including "Like Toy Soldiers", "The Way I Am" or "Stan". And in songs like "Lose Yourself" you'll know why he's one of the most highly regarded MCs in hip hop music.

Last but not least, for the vetern fans of Eminem he's released 3 brand new tracks: "FACK", "Shake That" and "When I'm Gone" and with the deluxe version of Curtain Call you recieve a disc entitled "Stan's Mixtape" which includes: "Dead Wrong (Remix Feat. Notorious B.I.G.", "Role Model (From SSLP)", "Kill You (From MMLP)", "S*** On You (Feat. D12)", "Criminal (From MMLP)", "Renegade (Feat. Jay-Z)", & "Just Don't Give A F*** (From SSLP)".

Fans of the Slim Shady type humor will find the new track "FACK" very funny. Though at first listen you'll scratch your head and wonder why it's so juvenile, you'll find yourself laughing after a few more listens. Then "Shake That" is usual club track you'd expect from Eminem with great work from Nate Dogg. Infact, Nate Dogg took more of the track time then Em did which is a little awkward, but the beat will help you forget that. And moving on to the last new track is "When I'm Gone". Just when you thought "FACK" and "Shake That" were questionable this song blows the rest of the water. It packs powerful lyrics and a driving beat, it ranks a little over "Mockingbird" on last album "Encore". Maybe one of the main selling points for this album.

The only irks about this album is that on a few tracks like "Without Me", "The Way I Am" and "Sing For The Moment" is that you can still hear the original track transitions from the album versions. For e.g. If you listen very closely to "Without Me" you'll hear a millisecond of the previous track probably off the Eminem Show. It's nothing that important to dwell about, but for audiophiles this may be a little disappointing.

Overall, this is a great album for both veterans who want all of the popular hits on one disc and beginners who are just getting into Eminem.

4 out of 5 stars FACK IS THE WORST EMINEM SONG YET   December 6, 2005
5 out of 6 found this review helpful

Okay I'm a big eminem fan. I own all of his albums including his stuff before signed on with Interscope. I also am a huge fan of his radio station, Shade 45 on Sirius....

but the track, FACK is just a totally retarded song. I heard it on Shade 45 the other day and couldn't believe that it was actually one of his songs. I just think it doesn't sound good and is just purely retarded.

Anyway, besides that track...the rest on this cd are great. This is an excellent collection of some of the best eminem songs.

Overall....great cd and the bonus Stan's Mixtape is hot.
