Album Description A dozen years after exploding onto the scene with "Stay (I Missed You)" from the Gen-X movie classic Reality Bites, Lisa Loeb--one of the most recognizable musical artists of the last decade--premieres not only her first "best of" collection but her own unscripted TV series. With E! Entertainment Television's #1 Single debuting in January, The Very Best of Lisa Loeb was released January 24, 2006. Heard on both is "Single Me Out," the theme song to the TV series.Featuring 18 selections, The Very Best of Lisa Loeb includes all of her hits from five albums from 1995 to 2004, from the orchestral "Furious Rose" to the rocking "Fools Like Me" to the stripped-down acoustic "Sandalwood," as well as the most memorable tracks from her career to date. The literary Loeb also penned the album's liner notes. After growing up in Dallas, this modern-day Mary Tyler Moore enrolled at Brown University and formed a duo with her roommate. After graduating, she moved to New York and began playing the New York City club circuit to sell-out crowds all over downtown, backed by her group Nine Stories. Friend/fan Ethan Hawke brought her to the attention of Ben Stiller, who was starring in and directing Reality Bites. He added "Stay (I Missed You)" to the soundtrack and the single hit #1. Loeb became the first unsigned artist to ever reach the top spot. "Stay (I Missed You)" was certified gold and earned Loeb a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, the U.K.'s prestigious Brit Award for Best International Newcomer, and a record deal with Geffen. Her debut album, 1995's Tails, went gold and Top 30 and spun off the Top 20 hit "Do You Sleep?," "Waiting For Wednesday," "Taffy" and "Sandalwood." "Stay (I Missed You)" was also reprised. Known for her sexy-and-smart girl-next-door persona, accented by her trademark cat-eyed glasses, Loeb created music that touched a new generation. She toured America, opened for Lyle Lovett and appeared at the first-ever Lilith Fair, a celebration of female artists featuring Sarah McLachlan, Patti Smith, Aimee Mann, Emmylou Harris, Tori Amos and others.1997's Grammy-nominated Firecracker yielded the Top 20 "I Do," "Truthfully," "Let's Forget About It," "Falling In Love" and "How," which debuted on the soundtrack to the summer blockbuster Twister. That year she guested on the Counting Crows' European tour and also starred at the second Lilith Fair. From 2002's A&M album Cake and Pie, The Very Best of Lisa Loeb culls "Bring Me Up" and "Underdog." That same year a revamped indie version of the album, titled Hello Lisa, showcased "What Am I Supposed to Say." 2004's Rounder disc The Way It Really Is included "Fools Like Me."Today, with a "best of" collection, starring in #1 Single (about looking for love in the 21st century), touring, and working on a new album, Lisa Loeb proves she is here to stay.

Only 2 songs from "Cake and Pie?" What was she thinking? February 14, 2006 15 out of 23 found this review helpful
Hands down, Lisa Loebs's best album (read: her only truly GREAT CD) is "Cake and Pie," so it would stand to reason that a fair share of the songs on a "best of" CD would be taken from that album. However, nearly HALF the songs on this hits CD are from Loeb's second album, the good (but nothing special) "Firecracker."
Who chose these songs? I mean, Loeb's three hits are included (a no-brainer), but much of the CD feels like arbitrary filler. "Let's Forget About It" and "Taffy" are highly forgettable, third-rate coffee-house pop (which is why they both flopped after being released as singles), while other songs like "Sandalwood" are boring tripe.
Where are the soaring guitars of "You Don't Know Me" and possibly Loeb's best song ever, "Someone You Should Know?" And at least one song from Loeb's stellar "Catch The Moon" CD would have been a great way to finish this "best of" collection! But instead fans get what is essentially Loeb's first two CDs' highlights with a few songs from other albums added in to make it a "best of" CD.
I am a huge Lisa Loeb fan, but this CD feels like it was just thrown together. I am very disappointed and, frankly, disgusted. Fans are better off with the regular albums and skipping this craptastic "best of" CD.
Totally rocks January 28, 2006 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I'm not usually into the "poppy" sounds, but Lisa Loeb has hit a homerun for young women everywhere. They can totally relate to her lyrics and moods, and for them she is kind of a hero. I admire her because she's honest with her lyrics and she is kinda kinky or hot.
I don't understand why they do that! January 30, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I don't believe they left Someone You Should Know out of this collection!! That would have made this CD really complete!! I don't know why music companies always leave some relevant tracks out. Probably they think people will buy both records, but I don't think that's the case. Anyhow, I think this is a good selection, but not all of her best songs are here.
Lisa Loeb- The Very Best of February 3, 2006 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I should start out by saying I never really discovered Lisa Loeb until I heard "Cake and Pie" which, to me, was an okay cd. Then I left it. A few months ago I heard of "#1 Single" t.v. show and fell in love for some odd reason. So, I had to buy the very best of cd once I heard of its availablitly. Lisa Loeb has the most amazing talent to write music and lyrics. I love the feeling presented in "Furious Rose" it is so perfect. But I also enjoy the rest of the album. This is a highly great cd. I haven't stopped listening to it since it came out on January 24th! Lisa Loeb has captured me...she is a beautiful woman and musician. Here is a breakdown
I Do- 5/5 Underdog- 5/5 Falling in Love- 4.5/5 Let's Forget About It- 5/5 How- 4.5/5 Fools Like Me- 5/5 Bring Me Up- 4.5/5 Single Me Out (From #1 Single)- 5/5 Furious Rose- 5/5 Stay (I Missed You- 5/5 Truthfully- 5/5 Wishing Heart- 4.5/5 Sandalwood- 4/5 Waiting for Wednesday- 4.5/5 All Day- 4.5/5 Taffy- 5/5 Do You Sleep?- 4.5/5 What am I Supposed to Say?- 4/5
Finally! February 1, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Yes, Lisa Loeb is quirky *and* hot! :) She is also incredibly talented, and her music is original and infectious. I've been a fan since "Stay," and it's nice to see a "best of" collection. Most of my favorite songs made it on this album -- it seems like a well-chosen collection. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has only heard "Stay," "Do You Sleep?" and "I Do" -- if you want to hear more of the same intelligent, catchy music, it's here in abundance! Also, check out Lisa's TV show on E! -- it's lots of fun!
