    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com
Director Cameron Crowe is the kind of guy who you just know makes killer custom compilations for his friends. Lucky for us, this is basically what this album is. While its nominally linked to Crowe's movie of the same name, it feels like a leisurely stroll down his record shelves. The tone here is a lot more varied than on the first CD, which was mostly rootsy Americana. Sure, there are return artists like Tom Petty ("Learning to Fly," from 1991's Into the Great Wide Open), Ryan Adams ("Words"), and Lindsey Buckingham ("Big Love"), but the newcomers are more intriguing. Two of the best and least expected ones are paired in the middle of the album. The lovely, dreamy "...Passing By" was culled from the 2001 debut by German electronica master Ulrich Schnauss; following it are Sweden's Concretes and their buoyant, '60s-infused "You Can't Hurry Love" (not the Supremes tune). Meanwhile, Rachael Yamagata's "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" is a cover, and it preserves the wonderful mix of folk and pop of the 1971 original by cult icon Judee Sill. This is the rare sequel that feels richer than the album it follows. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars 15 songs. No waste. Better than Vol. 1.   February 18, 2006

You may not like all Cameron Crowe movies. As a matter of fact, I found Elizabethtown a bit dissapointing. But one thing you can't argue is that all of them carry an impeccable music selection, something that comes from Crowe's days as a write for Rolling Stone magazine. "Elizabethtown" was no exception to this, and aware of the fact, the movie saw two soundtrack volumes spinning off of it. I have found Volume 2 to be more solid than Volume 1 in general, with 15 tracks that have no waste. Topping the list are the tracks by Tom Petty, Kathleen Edwards and Ryan Adams. I give it five stars: great selections of classics and classics-to-be.

5 out of 5 stars Another great "mix tape" from Cameron Crowe   February 9, 2006

As with all his film soundtracks, even if you've never heard the songs or artist before, you're not going to be disappointed. This is the eclectic kind of collection that always leads you to seek out more songs by the artist involved.

4 out of 5 stars A SECOND SOUND ROAD TRIP? YES!   March 27, 2006
6 out of 9 found this review helpful

As with any road trip, one CD just ain't enough. Director Cameron Crowe often constructs music in his films as "cinematic radio stations," and the tunes in Elizabethtown have spilled onto a second disc. And a delightful one it is! The Southern rock mix features a roster divided between performers coming back (such as Ryan Adams, who scores high with the haunting "Words," specially written for the film) and those who are making their Elziabethtown soundtrack debut, such as Pinback and The Concretes.

This CD was considerably better than the first edition. It's still boring but it has a couple of good songs on it. I'm sorry I bought either CD.
