    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com
Christina Milian's third bid at pop stardom is most definitely the charm: a hotter, more frothed-up blend of R&B and hip-hop has yet to surface this year. What makes So Amazin' so amazing is that it doesn't tiptoe up to anything: Cool & Dre, the top-drawer production team behind this effort, leave the futzing around with ballads and vocal gymnastics to those who have time for that stuff. With Milian, the focus is all sizzling beats and breathy come-ons; you're not a second in before Young Jeezy is slamming home the platitudes and encouraging you to give it up for what you're about to hear, which is something like a street-edged assemblage of coos, slick samples, and maddening hooks. Three 6 Mafia step up to take Milian on a late-night club twirl with "Who's Gonna Ride," and Lil Wayne also gives it up in a guest spot. Call Milian a Beyonce-J.Lo wannabe if you will--and the case can even be made that she skimps on the vocals in spots--but you can't discount her taste in beat makers. With Cool & Dre on her team, count on DJs to start a new summer campaign: Make mine Milian. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars More underwhelmin' than amazin'   May 17, 2006
15 out of 16 found this review helpful

The third studio album from the multi-talented Ms. Milian presents a plausible case for breach of promise. Having been nominated for Grammy awards twice over, and with her songwriting creds, the listening public deserves more than an album of eleven "ordinary" songs that are indistinguishable from anything else playing on R&B stations anywhere.

First single "Say I" with Young Jeezy, is a radio-friendly dance track, but won't be another "Dip It Low" or "AM to PM". The only way you'll remember this one a few months from now is by the helpful contribution of Young Jeezy at the beginning of the song:

"I can't think of nothing else to say
    Christina Milian
    Cool and Dre"

Although acceptable from an R&B singer on debut, these lyrics more or less tell the story of this album - nothing new to say. Second single "Gonna Tell Everybody" starts off well, but then goes downhill quickly, and by the time we get to "Who's Gonna Ride" with Three 6 Mafia, (a track with a few PA lyrics) they have to remind you again who're you're listening to.

Listen to the singles on the radio, and wait for the next album.

5 out of 5 stars Ranks Higher than the "Goodies" and more interesting than "A Girl Like Me"   May 16, 2006

Christina Milian is still considered a new artist, which is funny when you think about the fact that she's had 2 previous albums, and movies with Tommy Lee Jones, John Travolta and Uma Thurman. She has always either fallen short of expectations or just done projects at the wrong time.
"It's About Time" lacked a flow, from r&b to pop, nobody knew who she was, what she was about. With "So Amazin'" Christina gets closer to stating who she is and what drives her. It is far more personal, and has the perfect blend of r&b and danceable hip hop. It's far more mature than her previous effort and some of the recent r&b albums that have dropped. Christina has grown vocally, lyrically and has progressed in production since we last heard her in 2004.

    01. Say I (3.5/5) The current single with Young Jeezy. It has its moments, but it is definately not the best song on the album.

    02. Twisted (4/5) It has a fresh hot track, and the scratchyness in her voice is hot in this number.

    03. Gonna Tell Everybody (5/5) The first killer song on the album, this one screams I NEED TO BE THE NEXT SINGLE and has radio potential all over. She sings on a mellow rnb piano driven track about an unfaithful lover and how now she's let it go, but before then Everybody's gonna know about it. She sings it the way BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY did 'Tha Crossroads.'

    04. Who's Gonna Ride (Featuring Three-6-Mafia) (3.5/5) This song was a buzz single for the album and was played a bit on radio, it was referred as the 'Nick-Diss Record' but all in all it has a gritty vibe, her voice isn't quite as strong as it could be for the content and track but she gets her point accross to her previous ex's.

    05. So Amazing (Featuring Dre) (4.5/5) One of my favorite songs, the track is hot, the flow of the words just make you want to hit a club or drive real fast. Good dance track with Christina and Dre flirting back with each other promising each other an amazing end of the night.

    06. Hot Boy (Featuring Dre) (5/5) Took me two listens to learn to like this song, and now it's probably my second favorite song. Has a homemade garage produced feel to it, the track is fresh and hot with synth beats and it sounds like something that would do good on radio later on.

    07. Foolin' (4.5/5) Feels like a throwback with an old recording sample, and speaks about a guy trying to get with a girl when he is already in a relationship, and that she's not down for that, her vocals improve on this track.

    08. My Lovin' Goes (3.5/5) The track is hotter than the song in this case, not one of the best things about the album, but it's enjoyable.

    09. Just A Little Bit (4.5/5) Great track and song, just has a good vibe to it and vocally shows improvement.

    10. Y'all Ain't Nuthin' (4.5/5) Good mellow r&b track that probably becomes one of the most personal on the album, as she talks about all the good things she does for her man, fixes him dinner, though he's coming home from cheating on her, fixes his clothes, so he could go out there for all these chickens to see. Solid track and vocals.

    11. She Don't Know (5/5) One of the best tracks on the album, it has a spanish tango styled ballad feel, about her being with a commited man, and that she's fallen in love and never intended to be in this situation. The track would be a wildcard, but with a hot video I can see this being a single.

    Tracks not on album:

    12. Tonight (UK Bonus Track) (5/5) Great track, nice vocals
    13. Wind You Up (Japanese Track) (4/5) A hot track that I can almost see Janet clearly singing on. A little more racy than the songs on the album.
    14. Be What It's Gonna Be (4/5) From Usher's IN THE MIX soundtrack, this song has a great mellow feel and just sounds nice.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone Slept On This Album   July 4, 2006

I just want to say that all the real christina milian fans really need to pick this album up first off, who wants to be signed under jay-z? she was better off anyway cuz his stars flopped in the game such as teairra mari and the youngz to name a few. Secondly, this album WAS NOT promoted the way it should have been I have this album and I fell in love with it my most favorite picks are of course Say I, Twisted, My Lovin Goes, Ya'll Aint Nothing, and Gonna Tell Everybody. Her vocals are as beautiful as she is so for all the haters out there clearly ya don't know ya music or know how to write a review for that matter to inquiring minds please pick this album up and support her because she really deserves it.

3 out of 5 stars Good voice; average lyrics   September 12, 2006
5 out of 7 found this review helpful

Despite a few hit singles, Christina Milian really hasn't been very successful in the music game. Her self-titled album was never released in the US, and her follow-up album It's About Time didn't do much sales-wise, despite a hit single in "Dip It Low". And even lower sales for THIS album, So Amazin', might explain why she was dropped from Island Def Jam.

One thing that's strange about the way Christina carries herself is that she seems to have a different look with every album: last time she was going for the Lil' Kim look; here, she appears to be going for the Rihanna look. All jokes aside, as I stated in the title of this review, Christina's lyrics really aren't that great, and at times they're even juvenile. This is especially evident on "My Lovin' Goes", which has the chorus: "I'm writing you this letter to tell you how I'm feeling inside/To let you know that I like ya." There's also "Gonna Tell Everybody", that says: "I'm gonna tell everybody that you cheated." What is this, middle school?

Another problem lies in the fact that producer Dre (of Cool & Dre) seems to think he's a rapper. He fails miserably in an already questionable "Hot Boy", and "So Amazing" is anything but. But actual rappers don't help out much either: "Say I" (with Young Jeezy) makes no sense; and you can tell Three 6 Mafia had a hand in "Who's Gonna Ride" because it sounds just like "Stay Fly".

Christina's material isn't really very impressive when she's by herself, either; case in point: "Foolin'" is an average song that inadvertently discusses her breakup with Nick Cannon (and it lazily samples Average White Band's "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" -- by the way, doesn't Nick realize that his album keeps getting pushed back for a REASON?). Christina needs to seriously get with some better producers AND better songwriters if she wants a steady music career because for right now, I can't see myself playing So Amazin' more than once.

P.S. In response to the editorial reviewer, Lil' Wayne does not appear on this album.

    4 out of 5 stars So Amazin'....So far   May 17, 2006

Christina Milian is a beautiful, multi-talented young woman, with the potential to be an AMAZIN' artist. However, this album is a little disappointing,IMO.One reason being, because of the lack of ballads and some tracks seem over-produced.I was hoping for something that may have put her towards the same satus of other successful artists. The production of Cool and Dre wasen't needed throughout the whole album.I think that she should have worked with other producers (i.e.Timbaland,Scott Stort,Jazze Pha,The Neptnes...etc.).Other than that, this album is just...alright.There are SOME highlights but most of the tracks are lackluster.I'm pretty sure that my mind will change after listening to the album a few more times..then I'll write a better review...till then. Here's a brief review of...So Amazin'

    01. Say I(4/5) feat.Young Jeezy-nice record,very street.

    02. Twisted (4/5)-she sounds really soulful and slighty aggressive.

    03. Gonna Tell Everybody(5/5)-nice slow jam.I LOVE the Bone-Thugs-n-Harmonizin' mixed with it.

    04. Who's Gonna Ride (4/5)-nice uptempo track...her vocals should have nbeen focused on a bit more..but other than that..it's HOT...

    05. So Amazin (2/5)-this is somewhat of an attempt...it could have been WAY better...and Dre's vocals sort of make it worse...LOVE the beat though.

    06. Hot Boy (4/5)-sexy record...chorus is repetitive..but catchy.

    07. Foolin (5/5)-a VERY nice record that a lot of us can relate to...

    08. My Lovin Goes (5/5)-I LOVE this record!...

    09. Just A Little Boy (3/5)-O.K...

    10. Ya'll Ain't Nuthin' (2/5)-not my favorite but it's ok...

    11.She Don't Know (5/5)-a very hot latina(Spanglish) track.

It's very easy to give her at least 5 stars...because you can tell she put a lot of effort into this album...BUT..my girl has a very bright future!
