"Why'd you have to be so cute

Imogen's voice is pure perfection in Goodnight and Go with a surrounding of magical electronic playfulness. Longing and mystery mingle seductively in elements of exciting adventures.
A sense of nostalgia awakens into a landscape of delicate notes and wise lyrics making this a mellow mood with relaxation elements. If this was the only Imogen Heap song you ever heard, you could fall madly in love with her angelic voice. There is such a human sense of acceptance and unconditional love in this song, it is stunning.

This is the first single CD I ever bought and I was never disappointed! I love Immi's radio mix of, "Goodnight & Go," and her b-side, "Speeding Cars," is phenomenal! I suggest everyone buy this single!

"Goodnight & Go" has probably been Immi's most ubiquitous song in the past year, since she has performed it on nearly every media appearance she has made. If you're a fan of hers at all, you've probably got at least one copy of it already.
So the real reason to buy this single is the really wonderful b-side, "Speeding Cars." Piano-driven and with Imogen's voice very up-front and not overly processed, it's one of the best songs to come out of her post- Frou Frou career. This is the most substantial b-side I've ever heard from her, and certainly an equal of the SPEAK FOR YOURSELF album material.

After the mainstream embrace of her side project Frou Frou, Imogen Heap made a major splash with her second solo album. And one of the most enchanting songs on that album is "Goodnight and Go." But the single not only has a remix of this song, but also a B-side and a music video for the title track -- in other words, a good find for Imogen fans.
The enchanting chorus says it all, about a guy she really wants to be more-than-friends with. "Why'd ya have to be so cute?/It's impossible to ignore you/Must you make me laugh so much?/It's bad enough we get along so well/Say goodnight and go..." Heap sings flirtatiously, before singing earnestly about him dancing naked to music, and wishing that he'd miss his train and have to stay the night.
This version of the title song is the "Immi's Radio Mix," which is a bit dancier and more electronic than the original. After that comes the B-side "Speeding Cars," which is not nearly catchy enough to be a single, but is beautiful enough to stand out: gentle piano melodies, and an admonition to a torn man that "Oh don't lose your head/'Cause none of us were angels."
Then there's a deliciously offbeat music video, with Heap in a red ball dress and a small garden in her hair, with a winding key on her back and a network of Christmas lights overhead. She looks a bit like a mad Kate Beckinsale. Jack-in-the-boxes pop, toys stare, and dummies smirk, giving the impression that Heap is a Pinocchio-like toy that just became... almost human.
Few singers can make such good use of trip-hop or electronic music as the backdrop to a voice. But then, Heap has a beautiful voice -- it's rich, throaty and deeply organic, and you know she'd sound every bit as good live as in a studio. And she's got some brilliant pop lyrics to match those gentle, rippling melodies. ("Glistening in the cold sweat of guilt/I've watched you slowly winding down for years/You can't keep on like this/Now is as bad of time as any...")
The "Goodnight and Go" single is a good buy for Heap's fans, with the remix, the B-side, and the deliciously quirky music video.
