3 out of 5 stars House, hip-hop and reggae remixes   June 30, 2006

A kind of uneven remix package that will have audiences split, but still a whole lotta music for the price. The house mixes are all long, and by some very big remixers, but the trend seems to be to create a house groove and then barely use any of Kim's vocals or rap. So it's really like a bunch of house dubs, some hardhouse, some soft house.

John Harris's mix of "Lighters Up" is a slow piano house mix, but it uses the most vocal and runs 6:15. The Hani mix is a tribal/electro dub with basically no vocal and runs 7:41. The Tego mix runs 3:46 and is a hip-hop raga mix with a male rapper featured.

The Pull club mix of "Whoa" is a mellow hip hop mix running 6:31. The E-smoove dub is a funky house mix that actually utilizes some of the vocal and runs 8:18. The DFA club mix is a hip hop mix with a heavy bass beat. Very hot and it runs 4:20. The True Visionary extended club mix runs 4:36 and is like Kim meets Barry White, with a slow jam feel.

The Jason Nevins Goldfinger mix of "Big Momma Thang" runs 8:13 and is noisy hardhouse with very little of Kim's rap (just a few explicit words). The Tronco Trax mix runs 7:31 and is a deep tribal dub that basically repeats one explicit word over and over again but eventually breaks into a hint of rap.

And finally "Queen B@#$h" is remixed by That Kid Chris. It runs 7:57 and is a very uninspired deep tribal mix that doesn't go anywhere. Dark and moody.

In terms of the house mixes, there's nothing all that dance floor oriented here--feels like filler. The hip hop mixes are all kind of weak except for the slamming DFA mix of Whoa. Still this is cool remix package to have if you're a fan of Kim.

I was hesitant at first to purchase this ep based on the reviews here and i'm glad i ignored them because the remixes are not bad people! I'm not into dance music per say and so for me to enjoy these remixes says a lot! They're GOOD!
And FYI, the guy rapping on put your lighters up is the one and only Tego Calderon! He's brilliant as a rap artist-worth checking out and it's awesome to hear him with Lil' Kim!

What I wonder is if any of these remixes will make an appearance as the bonus tracks on the re-issue version of the album The Naked Truth?! If they don't then please do yourself the favour of buying this ep that isn't bad at all!

2 out of 5 stars Not exciting   September 20, 2006

The only remix that I like on here is track #5 (Jason Nevin's Mix). This remix is amazing...it's hard, has a great beat for a club and is vulgar and funny (he reworks all of her vulgarities into humorous combinations). HOWEVER, this track is obviously ripped from vinyl. There is a strong buzz in the background that is really obvious when the beat drops and there is hardly any sound except for this constant buzz in the background. Considering that this remix is really noisy and has a lot of loud sound effects it would have been nice to have a cleaner copy of it on the CD; I mean, that's why we buy CDs anyway.
