Depending on your age, the name Cheyenne Kimball could be familiar to you for one of a number of reasons. She took her first step on the ladder of fame when she won the 'America's Most Talented Kid' competition in 2003--singing her own song--at the age of 12. The Texas teenager then signed on with MTV to document her rise to fame on reality TV; instead of highlighting her flaws, the show served to affirm her sincerity and talent. Three years after inking a recording deal, The Day Has Come is Kimball's musical result; true to her abilities, she has co-written every song and played guitar on nearly every track.

Still, there are many heavy hitters contributing to this disc, from The Matrix to Chantal Kreviazuk (who co-wrote much of Avril Lavigne's last CD) to former members of Blind Melon. The question remains: is she a compelling young celebrity who can somewhat carry a tune, or a good musician who happens to have benefited from prime TV time? Judging by this disc, Kimball can definitely write, play, and sing. While still having a young voice, her control, depth, and ability to create hooks are well-showcased in the lyrically-disenchanted "Good Go Bad" and the country-infused "Everything To Lose." "Hanging On" is a catchy first single, delivered with confidence and perfect pitch. The end result? With solid tracks and powerful--but still developing--chops, Kimball is a young pop-ster with much potential, a possible future Sheryl Crow in the making. --Denise Sheppard

1 out of 5 stars Someone blow up MTV   July 14, 2006

someone please stop them from releasing their perfectly managed, pop artists. Damn, the media has so much power. This kid is alright, she's an alright songwriter, she's not anything amazing on the guitar with her basic chords. But that's not the problem, its the voice.... MTV shouldve at least waited, but then again if they had there would be no novelty in saying a 16 year old songwriter.... YEAH!
Don't become brainwashed by this shit

4 out of 5 stars Unexpected Talent   July 15, 2006

When we first heard Cheyenne's single "Hanging on" on MTV, we thought "ok, she's got one good single and she's going to be just like every other blonde pop actress/singer" she isnt. this girl has talent. trust me. this cd is worth the buy. My top 3 favorite songs are:
-The Day Has Come (amazing chorus)
    -Hanging On
    -One Original Thing

1 out of 5 stars The girl...cannot...sing. Period. End of story.   July 19, 2006

First of all, I concede that there's something to be said for her as a lyricist. But as a singer, she is horrifyingly, almost comically bad. I saw her on TV and thought she was just "having a bad day" (as that other song goes), then heard the CD and realized that even under studio conditions, Ms. Kimball is dreadful: a thin, grating voice and a near-utter inability to stay on-key. (In the back of my mind, I keep thinking I hear Randy shouting, "Whoooaaa, girl, kinda pitchy there....!") To think, NBC a few years ago anointed this girl "America's most talented kid." Yikes!

And this is what we look up to today. How sad.

5 out of 5 stars Hate to use the cliche, but... she ROCKS!   July 20, 2006

For me Cheyenne Kimball is like a cross between Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne. She has the folksy-country-ish touch (the most country I can handle) of Michelle, and the rocker electric guitar angst punch of Avril. But enough comparing, because Cheyenne has an incredibly strong voice and talent that holds its own for sure.

As a debut album this is very tight, with strong production, great hooks, and just an overall balance of great song writing and performance with a slight edge. After the intro, the first 4 cuts are non-stop winners... then I like to skip down to "Hello Goodbye," "Good to Bad," and my personal favorite, "Didn't I." Please take a moment to sample "Didn't I," it's a winner, though I'm sure the next single is reserved for the first few cuts of the album.

I haven't followed Cheyenne's TV/MTV career before this album so I don't have any preconceived notions about her recording music... to me, she's a great new young rocker in the music scene and I look forward to her next album. She... yeah, she ROCKS!

4 out of 5 stars What A Great New Artist!   July 12, 2006

Off at a really good beginning, Cheyenne Kimball is a really good rock singer. Already having one of her songs in Aquamarine original motion picture soundtrack, One Original Thing would have to be one of my favorite songs on the CD. Cheyenne has really great vocals, allowing her to hit really hard notes. Like I said, I think she is off to a great new start in the music industry. This is recommended. I'm expecting to see some great things in this singer's future.
