If the 9-year-old in your life hasn't alerted you already, consider this your heads up: Not since Hilary Duff has Disney delivered the masses a tween sensation as hot as the double-life-leading Miss Hannah Montana. More important for speaker-blowing second- to seventh-graders and the parents forced to buy them CDs, though, no small-screen sensation transcends the tube more convincingly. Part party girl and part plain old good girl, Montana--a sweet-voiced, playful performer--never skimps on the pipes. Country fans will chalk that up to our rhyme-named heroine's lineage; 14-year-old Miley Cyrus, who plays Montana, is the daughter of Nashville star Billy Ray Cyrus (who duets on this disc's sentimental, twang-resistant last track). The rest of the world, though, is apt to find itself belting along based on Hannah's unsinkable hooks and frothy Ashlee-meets-Hilary vocals alone: theme song "Best of Both Worlds" bumps around off a Joan Jett-reminiscent springboard; "Who Said" rips a page from the emo diaries; and "Just Like You" ladles on harmonies sweet enough to attach a stick to. Additional tracks like Jesse McCartney's "She's No You" and B5's Earth Wind & Fire redo "Shining Star" are first-rate complements to the proceedings, but make no mistake: this dance-happy hybrid belongs to the reigning pop princess alone. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!!   November 3, 2006
12 out of 13 found this review helpful

My niece is a big Hannah Montana watcher, so when I watch the show, I feel like I'm hanging out with her even though she lives 500 miles away. It gives me a look into her cultural world.

This cd features music from the show, and it is really catchy. "The Best of Both Worlds" is the opening theme, extolling the joys of being a star and a normal kid all at the same time.

"Just Like You" is a well crafted pop song where Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) reaches out and identifies with her young audience. There are also songs from the promising young girl group Everlife, Jesse McCartney, and Click Five.

This is music that doesn't delve into deep issues, but it is infectious and it will speak to young people, and best of all, it is clean. Recommended!

    1 out of 5 stars It's a special kind of awful   November 17, 2006
10 out of 20 found this review helpful

The reviews for this album would have you believe that the Hannah Montana soundtrack is some kind of masterpiece for the ages. 5 Stars is the highest review that you could possibly give an album, and believe it or not, that is the average rating for this particular album.

Let me give you a fair, unbiased take on the album. It's apparent that many of these reviews have been written by either very young children, or by the public relations team of the recording label that released this album. Don't allow yourself to be sucked in by these reviews. This is an irritating collection of songs that were both poorly written and performed. The arrangements are very cheesy, the songs too overproduced (likely to hide the flaws of the performers), and the album as a whole completely lacks any kind of appeal to those over the age of, say, 5. Sample lyrics: "Who said, who said I can't be Superman?". Yeah, great thought provoking stuff right there.

Miley Cyrus is the the young actress/singer behind Hannah Montana. She is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, he of the famed mullet haircut and the ever ubiquitous "Achy Breaky Heart", so clearly she has been groomed for success from a very young age. She might be receiving it, but she has done it by pushing pure, unintelligent, lowest common denominator product to the masses. The messages in the songs on the album seem to promote individuality and defiance in a way that anyone can understand, and Cyrus's vocals are basically thin and spunky. Sound familiar? That's because Disney basically just copied the Lizzie McGuire formula, and tries to present it as something new by slapping a different name on the front. It should come as no surprise, as the same hokey cheese factor that permeates all the original TV shows on the Disney Channel (such as works of art like Phil Of The Future) also runs through all the music that comes from its associated artists (see also weak albums by the likes of Jesse McCartney & Vanessa Hudgens - who said shallow bubblegum went away?). That said, the aforementioned proclamation of individuality is lost on this album's sound, as Cyrus basically alternates between sounding like Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears depending on the track.

In summary: The Hannah Montana soundtrack is basically just a whole lot of sugary, syrupy nonsense, which means that it fits in perfectly with the show that inspired it. Besides the 9 or so songs performed by Cyrus, including a duet with Dad that will surely make your gag reflex kick in, there's an abominable track by the aforemention McCartney, one from the neo-Bay City Rollers (The Click Five), and B5 desecrating the Earth Wind & Fire classic "Shining Star". I know this review won't be popular and will probably garner lots of "Not Helpful" votes, but this review was worth typing if I can enlighten some people into seeing that the Hannah Montana soundtrack is far from a masterpiece. It has even less adult appeal than the "Kidz Bop" series. Basically, I would recommend just about anything other than this. This is the kind of music that kills brain cells. In closing, the advice that I would give to Cyrus is this - when it comes to singing, follow the example of the pose on your album cover ... ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh!

    4 out of 5 stars A mini rock opera   October 25, 2006
8 out of 10 found this review helpful

Disney has been use to its female stars from Annette to Hillary Duff recording. Thew amazing thing of this cd is this is a mini rock opera, the story of Hannah Montana.

As in cut one, the Best of Both World (the TV shows theme song), the young girl Mylie (MylieCyrus . the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus) explores the side of bring both a real child and a real child celebrity

on cut two-Who Said That-This cut deals with celebrity rumor and gossip. Cut 7 & 8 (The Other Side of Me & This is The Life) are the flip side of Mylie and Hannah

I Learned From You preformed by Mylie Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus is a nice closing to this CD. Very heartwarming ideal of a father and daughter

the DVD is great concert footage, it seem studio concert footage, but it works to showcase a performing Hannah Montana

This CD seems like a Brittany Pop cd and It works

5 out of 5 stars MILEY ROCKS!   October 25, 2006

Kids love her as Hannah Montana. But she doesn't fails to attract older fans like me. I'm 16 and Miley herself is only 14. With an awesome voice and bubbly character, people simply just love her. She's definitely gonna shine and have a bright future ahead in the industry. This soundtrack consists of brilliant pop songs. Personally, I specially like "Best Of Both Worlds" and "I Got Nerve". A simply must buy! :)
