3 out of 5 stars I wanna be with you but only if the remixes were better   June 15, 2006

Madonna's 3rd single off Confessions, Get Togther is an apt follow-up to Sorry. Reminiscent of Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You in production, the track is progressive electronic with a pumping bassline.

However, as with the recent Madonna remixes, the maxi-single is severely dismal. Stuart Price's production may be commanding on Confessions but his remixes of the three Madonna singles have been lacklustre so far compared to his stellar work for Goldfrapp, The Killers and Coldplay. The Danny Howells and Dick Trevor Kinky Fun Mix is really neither kinky nor orgamsic at all, relying on repetitive beats to produce a generic dancefloor club mix. Then come the slightly more interesting mixes from revered remixers Tiefschwarz and James Holden. However, the two remixes are a complete departure from the original tune. Tiefschwarz manages to infuse more futurism into the song, giving it a slight Kraftwerk edge. James Holden's remix held great promise at the beginning but gets tiresome after a whole 8 minutes of repeated electronic blooping (read: irritating). The I Love New York remix by Stuart Price finally recovers some lost ground with a rather rocked-up version of the original.

And the original cover of the maxi-single is hideous if you do come to see it. The video has just premiered but it's just Madonna performing the song live superimposed against a futuristic animated background.

If Warner Brothers (and Madonna) know what they are doing to the recent Madonna releases and promotional blitz, they'd have some inkling that they are doing everything wrong or not doing anything well at all. Such a wasted opprotunity for an excellent track.

4 out of 5 stars Broad range of mixes...   June 6, 2006

    TRACKLIST:
    1. GET TOGETHER (Album Version) 5.15
    2. GET TOGETHER (Jacques Lu Cont Mix) 6.18
    3. GET TOGETHER (Danny Howells & Dick Trevor KinkyFunk Mix) 9.13
    4. GET TOGETHER (Tiefschwarz Remix) 7.34
    5. GET TOGETHER (James Holden Remix) 8.00
    6. I LOVE NEW YORK (Thin White Duke Mix) 7.43

The problem with most club mixes these days is that they rip the melody out of each piece of music and you need to be on some mind altering substance to "appreciate" them. Most of the mixes retain the original melodic structure of the song while expanding the arrangements. The biggest sonic departure is the Jacques lu Cont mix. It starts with a very crunchy and jangly guitar line and builds from there. It will remind those familiar with the full album of "I Love New York". In all honesty, I don't really consider the last two mixes to be mixes at all. They sound like completely different songs and there's very little of Madonna in them. I don't really understand why the record companies allow remixers to sorta forget that the song is about the artist.

The version of "I Love New York" isn't too different from the album mix. It just pumps up the dance aspect of the song a couple notches and adds some filters and sweeps to the general mix. Very nicely done.

1 out of 5 stars terrible mixes   June 13, 2006

US Domestic singles always sells for $5.99 at Tower Records for Maxi domestic singles or lesser for fewer track singles. I bought this at Tower Records for $7.99 which is equivalent to an import single. Yes... Warner Bros. raised the price of Madonna's Get Together maxi single. Plus, the mixes are freakin' boring and dreadful. The only decent one is the I Love New York which is a dub version and not any better than the album version. Dreadful Dreadful Dreadful waste of money. I will never buy a domestic single after the $2.00 hike in prices. And i will never buy from PerfectBeat.com cuz they over inflated the prices and they're a racist company much like Abercrombie & Fitch.

2 out of 5 stars She totally dropped the "discoball" on this one!   June 13, 2006

The album version is great. And so is the "remix" of ILNY (it's really just a dub of the original).

The trax inbetween are a complete mess!!!!!

To the previous reviewer's statement: "Most of the mixes retain the original melodic structure of the song while expanding the arrangements." You are clearly smoking something if you think the James Holden or Tiefschwarz mixes have ANY MELODIC STRUCTURE AT ALL. My initial reaction was to laugh during my first listen to both versions. No use of the verses or chorus appear in either mix; just a few words smattered over ATARI like sounds and electro splats. The JLC mix has none of the excitement of the other Stuart Price productions from Confessions. And the Howells & Trevor mix is listenable only by default.

I'd like to see one person try to dance to the James Holden mix. Hell, MADONNA should be forced to dance to it everynight for serving up this plate of poo.

5 out of 5 stars Thank God for these remixes...   June 13, 2006

OK, so there's a lot of pop candy mainstream buffs here, no doubt - and probably Americans (I mean, really, what the hell happened to you guys over there with your awful music?!) - who are not into these mixes. But if you come from more the electronic end of Madonna, then this cd has taken one of the worst songs on Confessions, and brought it to life. I hate the cheesy moments where that album pleases the mainstream, but I understand she has to do it, and at least when they ultimately become singles (as they're designed to be) we get remixes by top producers like Tiefschwarz. Anyone familiar with the underground king of lush electrohouse will love his reworking. And, Jacques does a good job redoing Get Together into something still poppy, but all together funkier and dirtier than that album version. I Love New York also gets a working, and gets a little more gritty, and a little less ditty. Thank heavens for that.

BUY THIS IF: You know the best clubs in town are the ones not advertised in the local gig guide

DON'T BUY THIS IF: You're a)chart-slutting teenybopping moron who lets radio DJs tell you what's "hot" and "what's not", or b) a christian who cant't look beyond the press propagannda and realise that the cross wasnt "mocking" crucifixion, but relating to it artistically (you know, you really are pretty fanatical over there, even though you conquer countries based on other people supposedly being the fanatics).

Anyhow... don't just stand there. Um... let's get to it.
