    Editorial Reviews:

It's impossible to hear Andrea Bocelli singing Perry Como's "It's Impossible" without being overcome by a sense of utter enchantment. As the ripe-hearted have known since 1997's Romanza, though, Bocelli's French-perfume-like appeal generally lingers well beyond a single song, suffusing entire lovestruck evenings with its richness and warmth. And so it goes with Under the Desert Sky. Recorded at a floating concert venue near Las Vegas (thus the title), Bocelli's first CD/DVD combo plays like an elaborate seduction. Cue up the DVD, and the crossover classical tenor, outfitted in black velvet, tortures the besotted with visible sincerity and knockout performances alongside David Foster and the elegant Heather Headley. Spin the CD and the songs come spilling out like elegant reminders of the swoon-worthy live performance. Several of the nine songs on the CD--"Cuando Me Enamoro," "Canzoni Stonate," and "Somos Novios (It's Impossible)" among them--are available on other Bocelli discs, but that shouldn't deter the faithful. For one thing, "Can't Help Falling in Love," a dazzling duet with American Idol's Katherine McPhee, can't be heard elsewhere. For another, outside of a few vintage Julio Iglesias albums, you just won't find this much feeling packed into a single 33-minute disc. It's impossible. --Tammy La Gorce

    Album Description
UNDER THE DESERT SKY: a spectacular new CD/DVD combo package from Andrea Bocelli, featuring his first ever live pop concert performance. Performed on a specially constructed floating stage in Lake Las Vegas, a resort community 20 miles south of Las Vegas, this historic performance captures Andrea Bocelli's first ever pop concert. Under the Desert Sky, which co-stars Tony winner Heather Headley (Elton John's Aida), represents a new era for the Tuscan-born singer. Spanish guitars flourish, traditional Latin percussion seductively keeps the tempo, accordions and harmonicas provide haunting ambience. Highlights include "Somos Novios" - Perry Como had a hit with it as "It's Impossible" - and "The Prayer," a duet with Heather Headley, David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager's Oscar nominated song from Quest for Camelot. Capping the program is a new song, "Because We Believe," by David Foster with lyrics by Andrea Bocelli and Amy Foster Gillies which was written for and introduced at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.

    5 out of 5 stars A wonderful MUST HAVE DVD/CD Set.   November 12, 2006

A voice like Andrea Bocelli's only comes along every generation or so, (if that) Caruso, Lanza, Pavarotti and Now Bocelli; They are my big 4. Not only does Bocelli have wonderful opera skills, but also tremendous pop singing skills, as well. As for classical singing; Bocelli's breath control is amazing; no one holds high, mid, and low notes (sang either intensely or softly) as long as Bocelli does. His diction is excellent; His tone is wonderful; His color is right in sink to the song being performed, dark or light, and all shads around those as needed. He has that tenor ring that can rise up over an orchestra, he sings just beautifully. As for his pop singing again it's spectacular; Bocelli can sing a pop song either in a classical way, or a bluesy way or almost anyway. He has tremendous versatility, I would rank him right at the top of pop singing for all time. Bocelli can sing big, bold, intense and beautiful, or can show us a soft side it seems like he is singing in one's ear, very sweetly and beautiful.

Under The Desert Sky: Is a wonderful DVD/CD Set, . Bocelli's singing hear is Romantic, Passionate, filled with Emotion and his voice will go right into your soul and provide you with delight. Bocelli has a certain vulnerability (for lake of a better word) in his voice (when he sings pop) that can fill you with peace. He is just amazing. the DVD is wonderfully done in a beautiful setting of Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada. You will watch it over and over again. The CD is a nice bonus, it gives you songs not on the Amore cd.

My husband got me this CD/DVD combo for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Not only is his voice the emotion of love turned into sound, but the backdrop for the DVD is just beautiful. The duet for The Prayer is absolutely flawless with Heather Headley and the final song on the DVD (Because We Believe) is an amazing display of sight and sound. The CD is also incredible. Andrea is an amazingly talented individual that we are all blessed to have to listen to.

I ordered this CD/DVD because of the songs "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" and "The Prayer." I also knew many of the Latin songs since my husband is from Puerto Rico and grew up with this music. Every song is a winner. We were so impressed with the setting, the orchestra, the songs and especially the vocal talent of Andrea Bocelli, we immediately ordered another set to send to my husband's sister and the CD "Amore" for us. What a magnificent DVD and such a talented performer. You will love this DVD and will play it over and over.

The quality of the CD brings out the crisp, clear sound of every instrument while allowing Mr.Bocelli's soothing, hypnotic voice to float between each note. Magnificent!

5 out of 5 stars His first live album, complete with the DVD of the whole thing   October 28, 2007

This is Andrea Bocelli's first ever live album, recorded in Lake Las Vegas Resort in December 2005. The DVD itself contains the whole program that was filmed then, and before it was released, the only way you could get a DVD of this was by making an expensive pledge to WNET/Thirteen New York.

Anyway, the CD only contains six of the live selections, but that doesn't mean it deserves a poor grade. The CD includes new versions of the Elvis Presley classic 'Can't Help Falling in Love' (this time with 2006 'American Idol' runner up Katharine McPhee) and an edited version of 'Canzoni Stonate' with Stevie Wonder, both of which give Bocelli's pop duetting a whole new edge. Meanwhile, 'Estate' is included as the 'Studio Version,' not the Live Version, and employs Chris Botti on trumpet. (This song was included on the 'Amore' album sessions, but on different releases.)

Oh, did I mention the cover of 'September Morn' doesn't appear on any other Andrea Bocelli album?

As for the DVD, its encoding is All Region (meaning you can play it on ANY DVD player), and the mood of the concert itself is stellar. I noticed that Bocelli performed all of the songs that were recorded for the 'Amore' album itself, including 'Porque Tu Me Acostumbraste' and 'Momentos.' The best part is that Bocelli himself interprets these songs almost as well as he did on 'Amore' itself.

I don't seem to find anything wrong with this CD/DVD combo overall. (I have both this digipak issue and the DVD case release of this set.) There are just too many recording artists out there making trashy pop, R&B, hip-hop, and rock, and they're played enough on the radio and MTV only to give rise to more artists doing the same thing. This artist is one of those artists who shouldn't be deemed a Justin Timberlake/Britney Spears-type musician judged from the overall quality and style of the music he performs. Anyway, if you have an ear for good music, just buy this.
