Desert.....Stoned.....Rock!!!! August 8, 2007 Eric Schwab (Richmond Va.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you love Kyuss, Queens, Fu Manchu, Che, Unida then I think you might like this. Its low key compaired to bands Bjork had been in but I think any fan of desert fuzzzzz will enjoy this relaxing at times but the throw back Bjork from bands before. Kick back pack one up and chill.
Laid Back Brant Bjork June 7, 2009 Markus Pacal (Austin, TX) Brant Bjork, drum-king of stoner-rock outfits "Kyuss" & "Fu Manchu," ventured out on his own with his first solo record, entitled "Jalamanta." If you want heavy guitar-riff heaven like his aforementioned bands, you ain't gonna get it. Not to say that this cd doesn't rock. Just in a much more mellow way. Instead of being stoner-rock, it's more groove-rock. Song titles such as "Lazy Bones," "Too Many Chiefs...Not Enough Indians" & "Waiting for a Coconut To Drop" kinda give you an idea of where he's coming from & where he's going...not too far! And that's not an insult. He just wants to kick back & jam. Work up a good groove and keep it goin' and goin' and goin' The fact that he left his beloved low desert home for Los Angeles to set up his Duna Records label, says it all. He also performed evry single intrument on the disc, including the vocals. Thank God there's more than one Bjork musician around because I can't stand that Icelandic freak.
Five stars, not two. July 1, 2008 Nick (Wherever Carmen Sandiego is) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wrote a review a while back stating that this album bored me, etc. Shame shame shame. After listening to it more over time, I realized that in order for this album to be properly enjoyed, it has to be listened to in the right context. By that, I mean it's best enjoyed on a lazy, sunny afternoon or evening, when you're feeling chill and haven't a care in the world. By that merit, I love this album, but it really takes a lot of getting used to, more so than any other album I've owned. That is probably because this is easily the most unique album I've owned. Five stars for this album, Amazon wouldn't let me change my rating!
