If you're not feeling the first single off Trey Songz' Trey Day, don't give up. "Wonder Woman" is an acquired taste of a track whose techno beats won't sit right with those expecting straight-up R&B. The good news is that, despite some show-offy rap walk-ons and a little over-the-top R. Kelly-style lewdness (see "Grub On," in which our guy seduces his short-order shawty with the line, "Here's a tip/You can be my IHOP--you hop on top of me, I'll hop on top of you"), Trey Day trots out some gorgeous love songs and lines up top-tier Kelly-, Usher-, and Ne-Yo-reminiscent vocals with the kind of production you'd expect from a far more experienced artist. While the poppy standout "Missing You" pours sweet sentiments into a vocorder, though, the album's more traditional ballads will win over the soft-hearted with plain old well-executed prettiness. "We Should Be," for example, a Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis composition, throws off sparks no 22-year-old singer should be able to set free. But Songz, proving he's an artist well worth punching your credit card numbers in for, lets them rip handily. --Tammy La Gorce

    3 out of 5 stars Rap in R&B   October 2, 2007

If you liked R. Kelly's new album, chances are you will probably like the beginning of this album. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling R. Kelly's latest album because of lyrics like "I almost called that girl a b---- again." I like R&B that's R&B, not melodic rap. Too many times on Trey Songz's album, he did more rapping than singing, especially at the beginning. I kept looking for standout songs like "Gotta Make It," but I came up short on this one. Can he sing? Definitely. Do I like his voice? Love it. Was I satisfied with this album? Not really. The lyrics were elementary (listen to "Grub On" and "Wonder Woman"), sometimes offensive (like the one above), and I wish he'd stop rapping altogether. All the rap guest appearances were NOT necessary. When I want to hear rap, I'll listen to rap. When I want to hear hip hop, I'll listen to hip hop. But I wanted this album to be like his last, where it was a LOT of soul and emotion and less time trying to be as hard as possible. However, when he started SERIOUSLY singing and you could tell the veins were showing in his neck, that's when I was like "Finally! There's the Trey I was waiting to hear." And when he did "Store Run," I gained so much more respect for him. It's not often that you hear ANYBODY, whether rapper or singer, talk about getting protection before they do the do. "Store Run" gets five stars.

this has to be one of the worst cd's i have ever purchased. some of the songs he put on this cd are absolutely horrible, and it is not music. For example one of his songs called "grub on" is ridiculous. Its talking about getting food from ihop at around 4am. The other song "store run" is even more ridiculous. its talking about running to a drugstore to buy condoms to have sex with a girl before she changes her mind. these two songs are not music, its garbage! and in my opinion, he cant rap if his life depended on it. The best two songs that are on the cd he released on the radio.

2 out of 5 stars Um What is this? Two stars for the two songs that I like.   October 2, 2007

    I'm sorry,"
I absolutely dislike this album. The only songs I do like are "Wonder Woman" and "Can't Help But Wait". I don't know what it is the production or lyrics but my goodness.
I want to smack Trey for making "Grub On" (I think thats the song). Basically, he is talking about being hungry and wanting some of this girl and how she is like his IHOP (eatery). That song is absolutely horrible. The lyrics.
I really liked Trey's first effort. I will listen to this again to be fair but its killing me...
