Album Description Urban contemporary foursome Jagged Edge re-team with production kingpin Jermaine Dupri for 2007's BABY MAKIN' PROJECT. As the man who gave the group their start, Dupri is in a special position to help Jagged Edge put together their first release on their own label, the Def Jam-affiliated 581 Musiz Group. BABY MAKIN' PROJECT files off the hip-hop edge that dominates so much contemporary R&B in favor of old-school balladry. Inspired as much by classic Motown soul as by 1980s new jack swing, Jagged Edge offer up a genuine R&B album filled with songs tailor-made for candlelit dinners and afterwards.

Let's Get It On September 25, 2007 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Jagged Edge debuted in 1997 with the very strong debut album A Jagged Era, they were a quartet of very talented singers in the same league like Dru Hill and Jodeci and with a quite similar sound mixing romantic slow jamz with more sexually driven pillow talk and from time to time some uptempo's aswell. They proved they were no sophmore slumps when their second album J.E. Heartbreak went double platinum in 2000 and songs like "He Can't Love You", "Promise" and "Let's Get Married" all reached top 20. Third album Jagged Little Thrill (not to be mistaken for Alanis Morisette's album Jagged Little Pill) had the megahit "Where The Party At" with Nelly that reached #3 and became their biggest hit to date in 2001, the song however was an uptempo and in the following years they would release several songs with rappers, but personally I think they are and were always suited better for slow jamz. Two more albums were released after this but apart from the song "Walked Outta Heaven" they both sold less then before and they weren't that good either. "Baby Makin Project" their 6th album is a way to come back to the spotlight again, cause they really don't have much to lose at this point. To my joy and perhaps others aswell, it's an concept album with only love songs. So, no uptempo's or Rap cameos here, the only guest is Ashanti on the first single "Put A Little Umph In It". After the reunion with Jermain Dupri on his So So Def Records he and his protegés produce most of the songs and while the production is on point there isn't really a major diffrent from previous albums. The diffrence is a more cohesive effort then in a while. Having said that, most songs melts into the album and many of them are very good with few stadouts like the regretful classic slow jam "Whole Town Laughing", midtempo piano song "Me That's Who" which is perhaps the best song. Retro sounding "I'll Be Damned", while "Sunrise" and "Turn U On" both have exciting sounds. The rest of the songs including "Put A Little Umph In It" are not bad either and I'm confident to say this is their best album since "Jagged Little Thrill". There are only 11 songs though and the first one is an intro but don't be scared cause of that cause there are plenty of pearls here. While Jodeci have disbanded and Dru Hill are somewhere lurking, Jagged Edge carries the tradition of talented R&B groups that really can sing and make wonderful slow jamz. Recommended if you liked their old albums.
Definitely worth it!! September 25, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Jagged Edge is one of my favorite groups and due to their voices I tend to support whatever they come out with.
Baby Making Project is just that a CD filled with ballads showcasing their voices to the fullest.
I'm pleased with pretty much every song but my favorite is Can't Get Right but I love the fact that they tend to touch on all the subjects regarding love such as being in love, finding the right woman, losing the right woman etc.
My only complaint, the album is way too short, for a group that has been in the game long enough, albums should not be this short. With only 11 tracks and 38 minutes, you are dissapointed that you don't get more songs and yearn to hear more.
The Last Male Group Standing September 27, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
As my title indicates, JE is the last male group standing and that's for a few reasons. Due to their consistency and lyrical substance among other factors, JE has endured a pretty stellar 11 year career considering the musical climate we are currently under. Their current effort is really a testament to their musical artistry and their vocal maturation is quite evident and continues to develop and grow on each CD. I found that this CD was waaaay too short; actually it's only 10 songs plus the intro. I was concerned initially when I heard the direction that they were going with BMP, I thought that they got bit by the "do what everyone else is doing" bug. Meaning making raunchy and provocative music but that is not the case at all. They played with sensuality and was a little more risque without being offensive. I really like the CD. There are no collabos except for Ashanti on the first single. I am just happy for my brothers in that they truly love what they do, they are true to themselves and they truly love and appreciate their fans. They have no issues or hang-ups in dealing with real life emotions. Their music may not appeal to all and a common complaint is that their songs sound too much alike. JE does have a signature sound and whether this is the determining factor for the future in whether they will attract new or even retain JE fans is to be seen. In any event, I am really feeling the CD and appreciate the effort very much. My favorite songs include #'s 2, 3 (being my ultimate favorite),4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (other ultimate favorite), and 9. I am told that they will be releasing another CD next year; May or so. Until then.................
I Love Jagged Edge but.... September 26, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love Jagged Edge but this cd has the wrong title. The songs on the cd are good in fact great, but when I listen to them I don't feel like making a baby.
The cd is way to short. What did they do run out of songs to put on the cd?
I ran out and brought this cd the day it dropped, because I love the group. I am so dissapointed in it. It is nothing like the other cds that they have released. There voices are wonderful as always...
Disappointed September 26, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
There is no doubt they can sing, but I expected more from their 6th album. When I listen to it, it doesn't put me in the baby makin mood. Don't get me wrong they are a great group, and this album is good but not greater than the others. They set the bar high with the first 4 albums, so if you want some Jagged Edge, buy their first 4 albums, or just burn this one from a friend who paid for Baby Makin Project, it's just not worth 12 bucks, and if you do buy it, all I can say is, I TOLD YOU SO!!!
