4 out of 5 stars LP's EMO attempt is better than the rest   December 22, 2007

"Shadow of the Day" is a song in the EMO vibe, which is not typical of Linkin Park. However, being typical is not what has made Linkin Park huge. LP practically invented Rap/Metal and now, with "Shadow of the Day", they are taking EMO to higher level than most.
This song is a genuine, heartfelt, aware song about societal strife. Lead Singer Chester Bennington's impassioned vocals mixed against the background of moving music allows this song to grip you. The video that accompanies this song, which shows the people of a rundown ghetto rioting against a totalitarian police force, is a compelling companion piece to the lyrics of the song.
"Shadow of the Day" is one of the better songs on 2007 and continues to power Linkin Park's success.

1 out of 5 stars Stop the whining, already!   August 9, 2008

Just when I thought we might finally be past all the whining and whimpering infesting the airwaves we hear "Shadow of the Day", an epic whine-fest that is about as overplayed as it gets. How could we have gone from Van Halen, Aerosmith and the great rock of years past to......this? Here's a hint: STOP WHINING! Here's another: Find a singer with harmony and a more pleasing voice. This guy and that song sound like a cat just before it tosses a hairball.

If this is the shape and sound of things to come and the next generation then God help us. Weak, wimpy and whining is no way to go through life, son. And I thought "The Fray", Buckcherry, Hinder and the other testosterone deficient whiners was bad.....
