Amazon.com Welcome to the Dollhouse, Danity Kane's upcoming sophomore album, finds the ladies hotter than ever. The set is the follow-up to their blockbuster debut, which made a spectacular #1 debut on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 album chart upon its initial 2006 release. Fueled by the top 10 smash, "Show Stopper," the self-titled album went on to achieve RIAA platinum certification for U.S. sales exceeding one million units. Now, with their new single, "DAMAGED," Danity Kane have more than matched their Cinderella story debut, crafting an irresistible collection of new hits in association with such studio superstars as Danja, Stereotypes, Bryan Michael Cox, and Seven Aurelius (LL Cool J, Ashanti, Vanessa Carlton).

A 'Welcome' Change March 18, 2008 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
I haven't been a big fan of Danity Kane. I found their first release to leave much to be desired with only one or two decent tracks. In my opinion though, 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' is a much better release and far more entertaining. There's a very R&B/Pop vibe running throughout the album and where as 'interludes' are usually distracting and take away from the music, I felt they were handled well in this release and actually keep the flow going from start til end instead of letting the vibe fall flat each time they come up.
'Damaged' is definitely among the best tracks and was a good choice for first single. Unlike many albums these days, it isn't the only good track that has single potential. 'Sucka For Love' stands out for the production values, making it sound more like a 90s pop song and rather fresh. 'Ecstasy' is another song with a nice groove that features Rick Ross while 'Poetry' slows down and attempts to features each member's vocal abilities. 'Lights Out', the upbeat anthem 'Pretty Boy' and the Missy Elliot track 'Bad Girl' are all fun tracks that sound different and help make this album a solid effort that out does the first release.
In all, this is a good cd. While there are different styles throughout the cd one could also make the argument that at certain points the music blends together. There are some forgettable tracks that when stacked against those mentioned above sound far too similar and less thrilling than the others. I like that there are fewer tracks I'd skip over or consider filler and that the music is more pop/r&b than it is an attempt to be hip-hop or something the singers' image doesn't convey. I'd definitely recommend you check out this cd.
P Diddy's all girl Monkees March 28, 2008 22 out of 42 found this review helpful
Talk about bad female role models! Toss in a few groans, well-homogenized tunes about the joy of your touch and lots of "girls just want it bad" lyrics, mixed with some synth and a few Mariah Carrey vocal acrobatics and you'll be parting with $9.99 as you load this into your hopped-up street junkmobile with vibrating and blown out speakers. I can assume that this will be played out of crappy cars all summer long and stacked somewhere with your illegally duplicated Pussycat Dolls CD from 2006.
This isn't landmark music, particularly after 30 of the first 45 seconds of idiotic intro complete with Sean Combs' asinine yackin' to re-establish his street creds (sorry, it doesn't work). ditto for a track with rapper Rick Ross: what stinkburgers. Over-produced and slightly too slick, it turns grating after ten tracks and you'd wished you learn to read more objective music reviews from, say, a reputable publication that doesn't let reviewers get payoffs and get comped to industry parties and record company swag.
But an enjoyable CD overall loaded with fabricated sex appeal and strip-joint lapdance tunes. If my daughter brought it home, it'd be out the window followed by a good family intervention.
This Is Not R&B! March 28, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
So, if that is what you are expecting from DK's second cd, then don't bother picking this one up. If you're a music lover of all types of music then stop and listen. This cd is pop and has only a pinch of r&b in it. It is a different change from their first cd, but it's still good.
2'5 - If Dolls Would Be As Entertaining As They Are Pretty March 18, 2008 9 out of 21 found this review helpful
Danity Kane a product of MTV'S reality show "Making the Band" with Diddy who's more famous for being a good business man then musician they decided that on season 3 they should make a girl band. After alot of twists and turns on the channel more famous for it's reality shows then it's music these days, 5 girls were eventally picked to form a band. After some time they finally released eponymous debut album Danity Kane on Diddy's label Bad Boy and "Show Stopper" managed to become a top 10 hit. Manufacted girl/boy groups is no revolutionary thing (see Spice Girls) but the chance of following the formation and evolution of a band through TV was rather new and seemingsly a good idea. But it doesn't mean that it always works, O-Town from season one was shortlived and their ridicolous debut album would be an insult to have in your cd collection. Another problem is that people's memory is shortlived and when the show ended they didn't get alot of spotlight (outside of MTV) and for those that didn't even watch the show Danity Kane ended up being another faceless girlgroup. It also more evident with Danity Kane that they're trapped in shiny modern productions that undermine their actual talent and personality and the 5 beautiful doll looking girls may just aswell been picked for that.
Sophmore effort "Welcome to The Dollhouse" couldn't have been a more suitable name for their album and it's very simular to their debut album with splendid futuristic but vacuous production. Danja, The Runners, Bryan Michael Cox, Mario Winans (do you really think that Diddy ever produced anything?) And songwriters like the Clutch. With such a lineup you can't go wrong?. Even if the songs are good they don't demonstrate much passion or personality, they're like puppets controlled by a puppeteer. Danja, my favorite producer stand for three songs (two on their debut). "Bad Boy" with Missy Elliott which is forgettable, mid tempo "Strip Tease" and "Pretty Boy" which must be the second single. That song itself is worth the whole album because of the splendid futuristic production. Unfortunately the lyrics comes in second hand. First single "Damaged" from producers Stereotypes is an alright midtempo and B.M Cox "Sucka For Love" a highlight which is actually better then his usual piano ballads. He follows up with "2 Of You" which is just a repetitive uptempo. Hip Hop producers The Runners successfully makes a good R&B song with "Ectasy" and Rick Ross makes a decent intro verse, this is a slow tempo and 4 of the girls sing verses, but they almost sound the same to me?. "Lights Out" is from Winans, and if you liked his retro beat from "Last Night" you gonna like this one too. Winans follow up with "Poetry" and "Is Anybody Listening" both rather forgettable slow/ midtempo. "Key to My Heart" from producer Science should be noted from it's diverse beats and hidden song "Ain't Going" with Donnie J closes the album, there are also several interludes that could have been longer cause they're actually songs not talk.
Overall, it ain't all that bad cause the production is mostly hot an some songs stand out for sure but it just isn't that interesting. I really couldn't care less what they're actually singing and who's singing what cause the production is overwhelming while the lyrics get overshadowed. The truth is that I never followed "Making The Band" and I never watch MTV, I managed to watch the "Showstopper" video about two times. You get the point, Danity Kane couldn't reach out to the masses and unless you wanted to care about them you won't know anything about them. Good production and sometimes songs doesn't make the band much more entertaining unfortunately. I have a feeling that this will be the last thing we've hear from them but I hope that some of the girls are able to make something better out of going solo, far away from MTV and Bad Boy. 2'5 stars.
OVER THE TOP!! FIRST WAS BETTER!!! March 23, 2008 9 out of 16 found this review helpful
First of all, I was never head over heels for Danity Kane b/c none of these girls has a voice that is strong enough to go solo...everyone is just "ok" vocally...but if I had to pick one cd, I would pick the first one. If you're into an overly pop/almost techno sound, then you may love this cd. It was very over the top to me as far as all the special sound effects and computerized voice changes...almost giving you a Pussycat Dolls feel b/c it is big on entertainment, rather than vocals. I also blame the show for my letdown. The show placed so much more emphasis on the girls and how much more "advanced" they were than the boys and the songs I previewed for the boys were amazing and HUGE on vocals. So if you're not crazy about vocals or getting that "chill factor" when you hear someone sing and just want something to make you dance, buy this cd. If you're looking for GREAT vocals, wait for the the boys (Day 26).
