Runaway Bunny a Runaway Hit April 10, 2008 Sally Higginson 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I loved this! What a simple, yet great idea: setting a classic nighttime story to music. Glen Roven is a genius: somehow he has managed to transform the magic of an impish little bunny and a deeply caring mother from words on the page to notes in the air.
I really think this adaptation should be a regular complement to all orchestra performances featuring "Peter and the Wolf." It's one of those rare pieces of art that captivates kids and parents. Brilliant!

Classic Classical April 9, 2008 John D. Bartone (St. Petersburg, FL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Glen Roven's evocative and emotionally stirring violin concerto, THE RUNAWAY BUNNY, colors and complements the classic tale as effectively as any children's book illustration. His themes conjure vivid pictures of the frolicsome bunny, soaring mountaintops, the rollicking big top, and a mother's loving embrace. The music is splendidly served by Ittai Shapira's virtuoso performance and Brooke Shields' heartfelt narration. It is hard to imagine a more successful collaboration. Children will be charmed by this accessible and engaging work, and adults will be increasingly impressed and rewarded with each new listen.
Destined to go down in history as a classic April 9, 2008 Peter A. Holder (Montreal, Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Initially I thought I was going to be jealous of children because they have this brand new classic, but then I realised that one doesn't have to be a child to enjoy "The Runaway Bunny." Glen Rove has created a new masterpiece that is destined to entertain and enthral children in the tradition of such classics as "Peter & The Wolf."
When you listen to the music you can actually visualize the story, bunny hops and all. "The Runaway Bunny" can ignite a child's already vivid imagination and rekindle the imagination of adults. In other words Glen Rove has created a gift for your senses. I suggest you pick up a copy whether you have a child or not.

Tubby the Tuba, Runaway Bunny, Paddington Bear July 24, 2008 James W. Beardsley (South Dartmouth, Ma) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I grew up with Tubby the Tuba(probably an old 78 recording). It was my favorite children's story. It was musical and I guess I was too. I purchased your CD with the intention of playing it for my grandchildren and I want to report they loved Tubby the best, probably because it was relatively short and the attention span was perfect for their age. Unexpectedly the Runaway Bunny was well received also-- especially the music which my three year old grandson visiting from San Francisco seemed to enjoy . That part took me by surprise though I enjoyed the Runaway Bunny music also. Paddington Bear was nice but much to long and it did not receive the attention it might deserve. Nonetheless, the purchase of this CD with three stories was worth it, certainly for Tubby who was the main reason for my purchase. I ended up with two additional stories. I may purchase three sets for all three families for a Christmas gift this year. There's too much TV and DVD stuff making the rounds. Old fashioned vocal story telling where the child envisages the setting should have a comeback. It's needed in today's world. Too many choices but clearly NPR and recordings like this one may save our grandchildren from the ravages of too much TV and DVD exposure. Congratulations on a fine recording. I hope others will discover or rediscover TUBBY the way I did. It's an American classic just like EB White's Stuart Little.
A Winner April 10, 2008 Ariel A. Blumenthal (Los Angeles, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes, even a grown-up child like myself loved this CD! The Runaway Bunny has it all: a classic story, celebrity clout, and serious, fun, good music - it's a winner! So many orchestras and parents are trying to get children familiar with orchestral music, most of the times it's a challenge, but listening to this CD it seems an easy task, with such playful, energetic, fun music. Makes me wonder how come no one thought of adapting this story before?
This is 5 starts for grown ups and kids alike.
