3 out of 5 stars The bonus tracks should have been on the worldwide version.   October 12, 2004

Damita Jo is not my favorite Janet CD, in fact I think it's one of her weakest releases to date.. and that's why I don't understand why two of the best songs are only found on this very expensive Japanese version.
She should have dropped some of the boring ballads such as the embarrising and unsexy "Warmth" and "Moist" and put these pretty little songs on the CD instead.
I hope her next project sounds more original and fresh because I'm not buying ONE more Janet CD about sex. Enough is enough!

4 out of 5 stars About extra tracks   May 14, 2004

I don't really like this policy of putting bonus songs on expensive Japanese import albums only, I guess 99% of fans will end up downloading them from the internet. The record company will whine over it, but they asked for it. Now really, what's this discrimination? We love Janet's music as much as the Japanese folks do.

Anyway, about the songs: "I'm Here" is a slow song, I'm not much into it, Janet's previous albums had better bonus tracks (like "Who" on All For You and "God's Stepchild" on The Velvet Rope").

"Put Your Hands On Me" is a more uptempo song, it is definitely the better of the two songs. It would be good if it were included on all editions of the album and the dull songs like "Moist" and "Warmth" were left off instead.

There's also a song called "Could This Be Love" which is not on this edition of the album and I can't find out on which edition it is, but I've heard it and it's good, try to find it somewhere. It's a slow song and better than "I'm Here".

    3 out of 5 stars Bonus tracks help a lot !!!!   October 7, 2004

I have the 2 Damita Jo versions and I must say that the 2 bonus tracks raise the quality of her last work. Well, it is not a bad album, but it is kind of "dull" and repetitive. Technically the album is really well done, but it doesn't have the same energy or power than the others (janet, Velvet Rope). She manages to use perfectly different styles: Hip hop, Rock, R&B, Dance... but it still has less energy, less powerful lyrics... AND I think we all already know that she LOVES sex...
"I'm here" (very R&B) and "Put your hands on" (dancing...) are really good and should have been on the original album. My favorite songs are "Sexhibition" (unfortunately too short) "R&B Junkie", "All nite", "Put your hands on": the catchy songs & "Spending time with you" and "I'm here".
I regret that the "Country interlude" is not a song :(

I am a huge fan of Miss Janet, but this album is not her best.

5 out of 5 stars Janet's most underrated album + the Bonus Tracks make it even better!   August 20, 2009

Of course the album sales didn't do so good (hint: the Superbowl) but any Janet fan knows that the CD is automatically going to have some sex jams and "baby-making" songs! In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated albums; there are so many great songs that the music critics overlooked due to the unfortunate incident that occured at the SB. There's only two songs that I do not deem iPod worthy; other than that, the album is great! Another great thing: with this edition, you get two bonus tracks! Here's the tracklist:
    1. Looking For Love - Janet's usual interlude to kick off the album. The music is very nice as Janet speaks about looking for love.
    2. Damita Jo - an okay track, but definitely not the best! Surrounded by hip-hop beats and old skool samples, Janet sings about her alter-ego, Damita Jo!
    3. Sexhibition - a song with a sexy swagger! Of course, we all know what Janet's talking about! It has a nice hip-hop beat with a hint of African flavor.
    4. Strawberry Bouce - very sexy song as Janet sings about a striptease! The song samples Jay-Z's Can I Get A... and has a nice bouncy beat!
    5. My Baby - I couldn't get into this although many Janet fans love this song - it looks like I'm excluded from this list! It's a mid-tempo song with Kanye West rapping after the second chorus. I usually skip this - not iPod worthy.
    6. The Islands - an interlude with Janet discussing what she loves about her favorite island.
    7. Spending Time With You - a nice mid-tempo jam very reminiscent of Twenty Foreplay. Definitely iPod worthy
    8. The Magic Hour - another interlude
    9. Island Life - an okay song. I had to get used to it but I deem it iPod worthy.
    10. All Nite (Don't Stop) - three words: This is sick!! An uptempo urban dance jam with a hypnotic beat! The music video is pretty cool with Janet and her dancers dancing in a warehouse during a blackout!
    11. R&B Junkie - a dance jam that samples Evelyn King's I'm In Love. Janet takes it back old skool style!
    12. I Want You - the first single in US! When I first heard this, I thought it was Michael Jackson singing it, but when I listened to it closely, I realized it was Janet! Another mid-tempo throwback as the song samples BT Express' version of (They Long to Be) Close To You.
    13. Like You Don't Love Me - this has to be the worst track off the album. I usually skip it. Basically, it's another sex song that's pretty boring.
    14. Thinkin' Bout My Ex - note: this song is not about Rene Elizondo Jr. because it was not written by Janet. The song is produced by Babyface (as you can hear his vocals in the background); the song has a nice R&B feel to it, but the lyrics are kinda repetitive.
    15. Warmth - the first baby-making track as Janet sings about giving a guy a BJ! It's actually a pretty funny track as opposed to arousing.
    16. Moist - Janet has dubbed both Track number 15 & 16 the oral suite. In this song, the guy returns the favor! It's actually a pretty decend stepping jam although the lyrics are...kinda out there!
    17. It All Comes Down To Love - interlude
    18. Truly - a nice change of pace. The song is very acoustic and melodic! I dub this song one of the standout tracks.
    19. The One - very relaxing interlude
    20. Slolove - one of my favorite jams! Another standout track which has a nice beat to dance to.
    21. Country - interlude
    22. Just A Little While - a rock/pop song that was an international hit (never released as a single in the US). The music video kinda sucks, but it's still another nice change of pace from the other tracks!
    *Bonus Tracks*
    23. I'm Here - a mid-tempo jam that definitely could've replaced My Baby! Janet sings about comforting her love interest and being there for him.
    24. Put Your Hands On - another mid-tempo jam about sex (of course). This is another standout track with an intoxicating beat and melody!
Overall opinion: Although not her best, this album is highly underrated. The Japanese edition adds two standout bonus tracks that's definitely worth the extra money! My recommendation: go ahead and purchase - you won't be disappointed!
Extra note: From the Damita Jo Sessions, there have been some leaked tracks that definitely should've made the cut.
Put It On You - an uptempo dance track that's very catchy!
Love Me - it's supposed to be a remix version of Just A Little While. This version sounds completely different from JALW; it has a hip-hop/R&B dance beat!
Could This Be Love - a nice mid-tempo jam that I believe was supposed to be track 13.
Pops Up! - don't really care for the song + it's only 2 minutes long!
    What Can I Say - a catchy hip-hop song.
    Lil' Radio's Top 5 Jams
    1. I Want You
    2. Put Your Hands On
    3. All Nite (Don't Stop)
    4. Slolove
    5. Truly
