Album Description Hollywood Undead are about to drop a musical bomb. On their debut album (A&M/Octone), they've concocted an explosive cocktail of hip hop, rock and metal, forging an alternative style that's primed to blow the scene up. They craft incisive, sharp and sarcastic raps that slash the jugular of mainstream pop culture. They aren't your standard rap or rock crew. They're something new, dangerous, funny and alive. Deuce busts out the melodies. Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog and Charlie Scene lead the lyrical charge, while Funny Man drops rhymes, and Da Kurlzz hypes the fray. Donning individual masks, Hollywood Undead possess a dark aesthetic that's connected to their hometown's depravity. Tracks like "No. 5" dissect the frivolities of Hollywood with witty, catchy choruses. Album opener "Undead," sets the tone, firing off a big melody and buoyant beats. Meanwhile, "Los Angeles" examines the town's gritty edge. Rising to prominence via MySpace, these six masked marauders stood at number one on the site's music chart, leading to endless friend requests and plays. However, Hollywood Undead has got the gusto to be earth shattering far beyond cyberspace. They're already knocking at your door, and they're about to break it down.

For HU Fans Only..Overall a good effort. September 24, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
First off,I've been an HU fan since 2005,when they were barely starting out and had one song [Turn Off the Lights ft. Jefree Star] on their myspace music profile..Ever Since then,I've been listening to all their tracks.
This Record is in no way a Musical Achievement, infact it's very silly..But Hey,I'm 21 and I like the hip-hop/rock style that they fuse together..the lyrics are terrible, but again,It appeals to me because personally,I'm into the whole drinking, partying, sex etc. scene just a lot of young people...So we can let it slide and enjoy the beats and the profanity filled words...I honestly think this band has the potential to mature lyrically and put out a better album in the future, once they cut back on the cursing, the drug, sex and thug content they can really put something out that can gain positive notoriety...A lot of artists debut is somewhat like this,an experiment with sounds and with writing songs..This band DOES have some solid songs with very powerful lyrics..Including "The Loss" "Pain" "Circles" which are not on this album.
As Far as my personal favorites and my personal "songs to avoid" I will give a short summary/rating of each track.
Undead 3/5-It's a nice track,Also Featured on Madden '09,but In My Opinion there isn't anything impressive about ripping and sampling Crazy Train and throwing lyrics over it..it's nice though due to the fact that nearly all of HU rap on it.
Sell Your Soul 4/5-One of my favorites,it's a solid rock track.
Everywhere I Go 0/5-This Song,if I can call it that,is atrocious,terrible,awful,horrible,garbage...you get the point,avoid at all costs.
No Other Place 4/5-It has a catchy beat and flow, lyrics are a bit repetitive and stupid, but a nice song to bump in the car with the windows down.
No. 5 2/5-This song is really old, pointless to put it on the album, especially with the fact that the song is just terrible.[How about Pain,The Loss,The Kids,Circles,Knife Called Lust or Scene for Dummies.. all better songs]
Young 4/5-This is probably their best song lyrically on the album,it's a very good rock song and shows HU's serious side.
Black Dahlia 3/5-Another oldie,it's ok,never liked it too much.
This Love, This Hate 5/5-One of my favorites, this is HU's "pop" track, but it's solid and has great sound.
Bottle And A Gun 4/5-Another older HU song, but I Love it.
California 3/5-This song is decent,it gets a bit repetitive as some other songs on the album and the words are pretty pointless, aside from repeating the fact that they love California [didn't they cover that on "No Other Place"?]
City 5/5-This is a fantastic Song, the words and the music are great,One of my personal favorite by far.
The Diary 10/5-This is the cliche Best Song on the album, therefore I must give it a higher number rating than it's supposed to have...I absolutley Adore this track,it's great on every level, the beat, the lyrics and it's just fun to listen to..This is actually my 2nd favorite HU song that they've recorded..with "The Loss" being my favorite to date.
Pimpin' 3/5-It's a good song,but nothing amazing.
Paradise Lost 5/5-Another solid lyrical rock song.
Overall I give it a rating of 3/5...this is a decent showing, but they have a lot of work to do before making an overall solid record..This is coming from a long time HU Fan..and this is really just for fans at this point, outsiders might hate it..so fair warning.
Love It! September 3, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
S-A-WEET is one way to put it...Fu*king amazing is another! I was literally blown away from this...It's been a good long time since I experienced something like that...
Best album of the year. No question. September 4, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After three years of waiting, Hollywood Undead's colossal fan base finally has their hands on this explosive album. This album is a powerhouse and you can feel it from the intro of Undead to the last note of Paradise Lost. Swan Songs does what every artist wants to do: Make the fans feel. Every song entangles you in the emotion that created it and takes you where the Undead have been.
This album is worth every penny you pay for it and more.
NOT MY STYLE-BUT OUTSTANDING September 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Growing up on Black Sabbath, I am still into very heavy metal (Asphyx, Bolt Thrower, etc.) and I can recognize outstanding bands. Saw Heart, The Boss, before anyone ever heard of them. I heard a sample from Hollywood Undead a few weeks ago on 98 KUPD Phoenix and made a mental note "this is a must own". Once available, I downloaded the entire explicit album and was not disappointed. Although not into Rap, this is good stuff! I believe a very distinct sound. Meant to be heard explicit format. I'm ready to pop a 40!
Go buy this album right now! September 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Hollywood Undead is completely amazing and they haven't seized to amaze me yet. This album is totally worth buying, so go buy it right now! HU4L.
