Album Description The Best Yet is Switchfoot's first greatest hits compilation and it features the best songs from all their albums. Over the course of 10 years, Switchfoot has become one of the most successful and respected bands in rock music and they are is known for creating groundbreaking music that is compelling for both its sound and presence, and socially aware lyrics. So far so good!!! November 7, 2008 AC (NJ) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Switchfoot is an extremely talented, spiritually conscious rock band led by an extremely gifted songwriter in Jon Foreman. Their first 3 albums on a Christian label showed that the band had much promise and creativity. They simply blew away every other CCM band on the scene and were destined for mainstream success which they achieved with the breakthrough smash - 'The Beautiful Letdown' - an album which showcases a band at their peak. TBL essentially features about 8 bonified singles, with 2 of them ("Gone", "More Than Fine") missing from The Best Yet! Unfortunately the band begins to decline a bit with their next release 'Nothing Is Sound' which is a fairly tired, somber effort. The 2 standout tracks are included on this release ("Lonely Nation", "Stars") 'Oh Gravity' was a rebound of sorts and 3 excellent tunes from that album make the cut - the energetic title track, the uplifting "Awakening" and the demonstrative "Dirty Second Hands" The Best Yet doesn't only showcase some of the bands best hits but also showcases their musical diversity and features some poignant spiritual ballads. Other personal favorites featured here include the witty "Company Car", the grungy "Concrete Girl", the reflective "Only Hope", the heartfelt "Learning To Breathe" and the little heard "This Is Home" which is a real gem! Overall, I can't really complain too much with the song selection. Every Switchfoot album has more than a handful of great songs so I would recommend purchasing all their releases. Here is my ranking of the band's albums (they have yet to release a clunker!) 1) The Beautiful Letdown 2) New Way To Be Human 3) Oh Gravity 4) Nothing Is Sound 5) Learning to Breathe 6) The Legend of Chin Enjoy!!!
Is It The Best Yet, or The Biggest Yet? November 18, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Switchfoot is certainly a driving force within the realm of Christian Rock, and after six albums, they've certainly cemented their place. So in-between their current crossroads, they want to make sure you know they're still around, so they've put out a best-of album. And of course, as is the case with all best-ofs, they open a can of worms to wiggle about. But the usual pitfall is avoided here, by coming out with a strong set of songs that represent the vastness of Switchfoot. A strong set of 18 tracks anchor the release, almost maxing out the allowed time for a CD, but they add nothing you've never heard before. Of course there's a bias towards "The Beautiful Letdown," with it making up a third of the album. And also not surprisingly, the album has mostly songs from their last three releases. The range is a very good overview of the band, from the classic "Learning to Breathe," the haunting "Only Hope," to the amazing "Twenty-Four." You'll also get their Chronicles of Narnia track, "This Is Home." And while it's still a pretty good overview, and better than what most bands do, they still left out songs like "Chem 6a," "New Way To Be Human," "You Already Take Me There," and "Paparazzi." Trivial sure, and fan-favorites all the way, they still did a good job regardless. But then there's the classic best-of question of, "Who's this for, exactly?" The answer is of course limited to the new fans, and the hardcore fans. Of course, if you get the special edition with the DVD, it just becomes that more appetizing. So overall, for a best-of release, it gets a lot right. Good song selection from a great band. I'd rather the band released a b-side album like Relient K and Anberlin have done, or a professional live album, since they put on a great show. But for the audio portion, there just aren't many reasons to buy. Consider however if you get the edition with the DVD.

Hey guys. Yours truly here. Just had the opportunity to check out the newest release from Switchfoot, "The Best Yet." I was really hoping that this CD would be a change from the last two. I was not sure what to expect at first, but now that I have seen and heard this new album, let's just say this is a MUST have. For the first time, the band is releasing a greatest hits album. It includes songs like Dare You to Move, Concrete Girl, On Fire, and many more of their songs you know and love. I cannot wait for this album to drop. It will drop in stores November 4th! GET READY! Keep on rockin!
Wonderful collection December 2, 2008 Tan Hong Wei Andy (Singapore, Singapore Singapore) This is a great collection of some of the biggest and best songs of switchfoot... for any casual fan, it's a perfect compliation. I am definitely getting this for the brilliant 'this is home' which hasn't been included in any switchfoot album before for any hardcore fans, the deluxe edition (with a great DVD) is the way to go When is Amazon gonna make that available? I would buy it if it comes out!
