To Answer Any Questions You May Have November 13, 2008 DVD King (So Cal) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
The DVD is programmed so the DTS 5.1 stream is the default audio when you insert the disc into your player. If you do not have a 5.1 system, especially one that supports DTS 5.1 or is not set-up properly to playback 5.1 with the correct cables, then you will not hear the audio stream if you press play immediately. You will need to go the set-up screen and choose one of the other audio streams which will be playable on your system. To comment on Sam's review below, there are 4 audio streams on the Four Tops DVD, the fourth audio stream contains the original broadcast audio for every TV performance on the DVD, especially the songs that were lip-sync'd. The DVD was programmed so that the audio streams contain remastered audio for those that want to hear the best possible performance in audio streams 1-3 (Stream 1 - 5.1, Stream 2 - Stereo Studio Remasters, Stream 3 - Stereo A Cappellas) while the fourth audio stream was included for the purists like Sam who want to see and hear the clips as they were originally broadcasted. All of this is detailed in the artwork and listed on the set-up menu. Please make sure your system is set-up properly to playback DTS 5.1 (correct cables - optical or coaxial - not red&white stereo analog cable, player/receiver decodes DTS) or make sure the the correct audio stream is selected from the set-up menu that works for your home theatre system before you start to view the content.
ooo, ooo, ooo Baby I Need Your Lovin November 9, 2008 The Greatest (brooklyn, new york) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a great dvd.The performances are great, especially Baby I Need Your Lovin,in which there is an alternate version with strings being heard in the background, which makes the song sound even better which I didn't think was possible. The alternate version is incredible.I've played Baby I Need Your Lovin over and over again and I still can't get enough. All of the performances are great. The acapellas are great also.Hearing the 4 Tops alone is breathtaking.Their harmonies are special/unique,their lead singer was special/unique.The harmonies plus(Levi Stubbs)made an explosive combination together. They were a great unit, that had great singing ability that captured millions of hearts,if not billions. The acapella for Baby I Need Your Lovin is great, especially the beginning with the ooo's,it is magical, actually better than magical, its the best The interview by Abdul Duke Fakir is very insightful. He gives insight about the group and the songs. His initial feelings about how he felt back in 1966 about Reach Out before it was released will surprise many, and the story behind Its The Same Old Song is very interesting as well.I've already watched it twice and I've had it for only 3 days now,I'll probably watch it like 4 more times before the week is over. This dvd is a must, the performances, the harmonies, the leads by Levi Stubbs, what more can I say purchase it. R.I.P Levi Stubbs,Renaldo "Obie" Benson,Lawrence Payton
A Long Wait! - WELCOME RELEASE! November 13, 2008 J. Sheffield (NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS, Lancashire United Kingdom) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
What a long wait we have had to go through for this FOUR TOPS reflection DVD back to the 60's and early 70's performances, it has been most unfortunate that early reaction was soured by the audio problems. Thanks to Jeff at Universal and also DVD King here for explaining it so clearly, but not all who purchase this DVD will read our reviews here, I have not experienced this problem on other Motown Artist Reflection DVD's Back to THE FOUR TOPS and any performance for me would be A ++ and it so good to see these cuts from the 60's especially. My first single I ever bought aged 12 was "Baby I Need Your Loving" by the FOUR TOPS a re-release and they were my first live concert aged 14 which I travelled 28 miles (a long way at that age) on my own without telling anyone. Never then did I think it would lead to be coming a Teen Radio DJ and playing the FOUR TOPS music I loved and getting to meet and interview them so many times. I just wish that the main programme though would not have been done as a documentary style presentation, also I feel there are some better cuts of some of the performances such as "Ask The Lonely" which is my all time favourite track. Yes I like others have paid a lot of money for every FOUR TOPS release possible on DVD and this is a good price and a welcome release, it just saddens me for production and editing I can only give it 4 out of 5, but that does not reflect on THE FOUR TOPS and should not put anyone off purchasing this DVD. LEVI STUBB'S become a Friend and will be sadly missed, I feel as if part of my own life has been cut away, but No One can take away the warm memories he gave and now has left us, just to see his smile in this DVD is worth the price alone - we will miss You Levi, but Thanks! for all you gave us - Buy This DVD!
EXCELLENT! November 8, 2008 Sam Hobson (Houston, TX, USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this video and watched it all the way through. I had been hoping they would release a Motown Definitive Performances dvd of the Four Tops. Well I have to say, the interviews were interesting, as well as the A Capellas and the performances. Well most of the performances. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was because about half of the performances were lip-synced. In other words, they took the video and put the original track instead of whatever the real audio track was. Now I dont know if this was done on purpose, or this was how the original broadcast was, but Ive seen vids of the same songs that arent lip synced. But the performances that werent lip synced were spectacular. Good quality videos. Id recommend this to any Four Tops fan! ****UPDATE**** Contrary to what is written above, DVD King has informed me that the DVD plays on different audio streams, the default being remastered tracks, and another being the original streams. Watching these that way was better. I would update my rating to 5 stars, but Amazon wont seem to let me do that...
