Amazon.com After more than 10 years working the Midwest club circuit, Detroit's Bob Seger hit mainstream American paydirt with this distillation of working-class values and juke-joint rock & roll. His regional success had been brewing throughout the mid-'70s, but after Bruce Springsteen connected with Born to Run (copping Seger's traditional rock values, to say nothing of his husky tone), it was only a matter of time before Seger found his ticket. Seger scores here with the nostalgic title track, the somber ballad "Mainstreet," the over-tanked rocker "Rock 'n' Roll Never Forgets," and the raunch standard "The Fire Down Below." --Rob O'Connor

Classic Rock and Roll from the Seventies August 1, 2000 William M. Rand (Ann Arbor, MI) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is a classic of Rock and Roll and Seventies music. With truly great tunes and a really hard rocking beat, probably the best of all the Bob Seger albums, this one truly shows off the ability of the band to just truly rock out. There are some great classic rock songs like "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and "Night Moves" but also some more sensous laid back tunes like, "Sunspot Baby" and "Mary Lou" I'm not really sure if having the gold disc edition really adds anything, I couldn't tell any difference, but this version does sound a lot better than my old cassette tape version. A good reccomendation for anyone who likes 70's classic rock.
Classic song, lots of to-be-realized potential December 10, 2000 Eric V. Moye (New York, by way of Dallas) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is where I first was introduced to Bob Seger. Like many others, I first heard him in the mid seventies on FM rock & roll radio through the title cut of this album."Night Moves", to my mind is one of the greatest rock songs ever. Of course, songs about long-lost youth (sometimes sadly misspent, sometimes wonderfully misspent), and long lost loves often make the best and the most memorable ones. The rest of this album is fine, with lots of good songs. "Rock & Roll Never Forgets", "Fire Down Below" and "Mainstreet" are among my favorites. Seger was one of the last great rockers, who I think was as consistently creative as the much more commercially popular Bruce Springsteen. He has put together a fantastic collection of songs. This album is a great addition.
Bob has all the right "Moves" November 2, 2001 Brian D. Rubendall (Oakton, VA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
"Night Moves" is Bob Seger's breakthrough album. Released in 1976, and featuring the massive hit single of the same name, it was the record that lifted this long time little noticed blue collar rocker into mega stardom. Today, it still holds up as one of the best rock albums of the 1970s. Though not quite as good as Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run," it represents the same kind of commercial and artistic breakthrough and can be mentioned in the same breath without embarassment. Other than the title track, "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and "Mainstreet" are the other two first rate singles. "Sunspot Baby" is an excellent breakup song and "The Fire Down Below" is a firery rocker. The rest of the material is first rate as well. "Night Moves" is a must own album for any fan of classic rock.
Seger's best work February 28, 2004 Dave Stout (New Hampshire) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This album is simply a killer. Bob Seger in those days was playing raw, essential rock and roll at its best. There's not a loser on this whole album, but the title song is a must hear. And "The Fire Down Below" is the one of the best workouts a Telecaster will ever get. It's a smoking, hook-filled, howling rock masterpiece. Seger outdid himself on this album and never again reached this high water mark. Don't miss out on Night Moves.
Seger Moves On Up July 20, 2001 Thomas Magnum (NJ, USA) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Night Moves was Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's ticket to the big time. After years of clawing just beneath the surface, the band broke through thanks in large part to the success of their "Live" Bullet album and then the nostalgic title track. The song perfectly captures those awkward adolescent years where young boys try to make with the young girls. The song was his first top ten hit and propelled the album into the top ten as well. The album is full of wonderful songs like the declarative "Rock & Roll Never Forgets" and the wistful "Mainstreet".
