Quixotic and alluring May 20, 2003 Robin Orlowski (United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I first heard this tune on my local radio station, and was immediately enamored by the composition which sounds like it was destined for a breezy, but brooding summer. Due to tendencies towards empty lyrics and synthetic noise, I have an ingrained dislike of most pop music, but one listen to this import single clearly demonstrates Mraz has emotion most MTV divas and studs can only dream about. There is a clear difference between coached and genuine sentiment, and the most expensive training in the world will never successfully replicate the latter feat. Truthfully, the release sounds almost beatleseque in portions, bordering on the 1960's psychedelic pop-rock which is an annomally in today's binary musical charts.
great single July 30, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
great single and great live tracks. as mentioned below, the slower acoustic version is sung by Jason as well, he just sings it in a different key and he can make his voice go pretty damn high as well, he has incredible range and perfect control over his voice.this single is nice, but his studio album "Waiting For My Rocket To Come" is amazing and he has a new live album out that can be bought either at his shows, ... check it out, he's amazing live.
FINALLY A FRESH VOICE September 3, 2003 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Jason's sound, words and soul fly at you from this album. I can't stop listening to it. And singing along. Thank you Jason - for being fresh and different.
Nice debut from a likeable artist October 1, 2003 Patrick L. Randall (Silver Spring, MD) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Jason Mraz is a relatively new voice in the pop industry. Given that I had not even heard his hit single "Remedy" until a little over a month ago, it shouldn't come as a surprise that I did not know who this artist was and easily confused him with another performer. I'm not certain what the song is really about, but then again, I haven't put a lot of thought into it. As far as I'm concerned, it is just a really fun, catchy song that can make you feel an extra spring in your step when you hear it come on the radio.
The success of "Remedy", and the source of its ability to be confused with another artist, comes from its mixing a sweeping chorus with a spoken word style of verse that, in both lyrical style and vocal sound, reminds me of the work produced by Jamiroquai. Jason Mraz has talent and the appropriate degree of wry humor (which you'll see from watching the video for "Remedy") to make a career beyond just being a one-hit wonder. It will be interesting to see how he develops.
Good selection of songs February 3, 2004 Woofboy (Longwood, FL United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
For a CD Single, this CD had a good selection of songs on it. It had the "remedy" both studio version and live, as well as two other live songs. Normally I would reccomend that you just get the cd that the single is from, but this cd does have some good stuff to make it worth buying.
