Over rated November 22, 2008 Digby D. (Maine, USA) 26 out of 33 found this review helpful
Very dissapointed in this CD. With all the hype from apprearances on Oprah and Regis&Kelly expected much more. Amazing Grace on the CD is no where near the wonderful rendition they gave on those shows. What a shame to promote the CD with those renditions and not being able to produce them on this CD.
Very Bad Song Selection November 21, 2008 Tievoli (Los Angeles, CA) 21 out of 28 found this review helpful
I have 2 Il Divo's CDs and they are wonderful. But this CD in my opinion is a waste. The song selection could not be any worse. I am surprised that its hot selling item on Amazon, I think it's only because of their previous recordings.
Very disappointed November 23, 2008 D. Polzin (Huntley, IL USA) 16 out of 22 found this review helpful
I love IL Divo music and was anxious to receive this new CD, The Promise. But once I had an opportunity to listen to it. I was so very disappointed. It was all in Spanish except the last wonderful song, Amazing Grace. If I had known I would never had purchased this. I will be more careful next time.

I could have this as backround music (white noise) but don't feel it is something I will be riding around in the car listening to over and over. The music is nice, but do pop songs need to be changed into Spanish Opera? I would have preferred more original pieces from them. Their voices are beautiful and I believe they would do better with better material.
Fantastic, romantic music, IMHO their best CD to date. December 5, 2008 RvS1231 (Eden Prairie, MN) 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic CD that I find myself listening to again and again, over and over. It's really magnificent, and I highly recommend it. Each song has its own magic. The voices are layered and rich, and the harmonies and arrangements seem more sophisticated than their previous CDs. I must say that I'm disturbed by reviews here about their not singing more in English, as it seems very closed-minded and arrogant. Perhaps that's an American thing (and I am American.) I can only suggest that,if you open up your mind and learn a little bit about other languages, it is quite obvious that their classically-trained voices sound much better singing in the Romantic languages. The words are like rapturous poetry, and it lifts the music even higher. Even the translations are more poetic and rich than English can convey. Urs Buhler has some really nice moments on this CD, as does David Miller (who, I think, has the best voice of them all.) Carlos Marin's voice is used very subtly on this CD sometimes, singing softly, intimately, on many of the tracks. And Seb Izambard's pop voice just gets stronger and more confident the longer he is with the other, classically-trained members. My favorite song on the CD is the "Adagio," which gives me chills. So lovely! "La Fuerza Mayor," "Hallelujah," and "Enamorado" are also very fine, as are "L'Alba del Mondo" (Ennio Morricone & the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, oh sigh!) & "La Promessa." And on the deluxe version, "With You I'm Born Again" is amazing! One quibble: it's too bad they are using the formulaic "big ending" on a few of the tracts, as more than 1 or 2 of them on each CD are just a little "too much." This CD shows how powerful and talented these guys are, and that they can handle subtle and complicated music, and their producers need to stop insisting that the "big ending" is needed so many times on each CD. I highly recommend this CD, and want to tell all the Husbands/Boyfriends of the World to "LISTEN UP": buying this for your lady will inject an enormous amount of passion and romance into your life. Just trust me on this one. It's a guarantee.
