It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that STING! March 9, 2000 Hank Robbins (Pretoria Falls, New York) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Marvin Hamlish did well to compose and/or arrange this soundtrack to the BEST PICTURE winning film. The music composed by ragtime great Scott Joplin, has a liadback, bouncy ease that makes the listener want to dance. The arrangement of Joplin's The Entertainer is superb, and much of the rest of the soundtrack hits on the ragtime flair and style. An excellent buy for the ragtime enthusiast, or the die-hard movie buff. Enjoy!
"The Sting" is right! March 28, 2004 14 out of 41 found this review helpful
Rarely is a record so aptly named. There are only 13 songs on it, two of which are repeated twice and one, three times! You wind up with less than 25 minutes of unduplicated music out of the 80 minutes a CD can hold. I would say $6's worth. OK, the music is fine, but at a $12 (list) price, this is definitely a fine argument for "pirates" who say they'd rather rip off the record companies than the other way around.
Listen to it until you wear it out! August 25, 2002 Rob Banzai (Los Angeles, CA) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
When The Sting came out I was maybe eight years old but I knew right away I'd discovered a kind of music that immediately possessed my brain. When visiting an aunt I played her copy of the soundtrack until everyone was completely sick of it, except me. Thank goodness I got my own copy which I played, literally, until it wore out. I can't believe it took me this long to realize I badly needed the CD in my collection. It will never leave and I will play it to anyone who will listen. Great job, Marvin!
Great soundtrack, excellent music clarity, quality. May 28, 2003 S. Morrison (USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
The CD exceeded my expectations. I expected an average-quality sound from an older recording (since the movie The Sting was quite old). But the music quality is superb! The bass and treble are perfectly mixed and you can hear every sound, from the high-pitched clarinets to the tuba and bass-drum.
Bold, Bright and Fantastic August 3, 2007 CHARLES GREEN 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Listen to the samples of this CD and compare them to others. A full brass band performs Joplin fantastically. If you just want to hear Joplin's works on piano, this isn't for you. The bold, crisp blare of the band just blows you away. However, there is a downside. This is a movie soundtrack (The Sting). So, not all of the music is composed by Joplin. But, the Joplin tracks are performed so well it makes this CD is a "must buy." Listen to the samples and compare. Wow, this CD is great.
