A Christmas Gift From Ray Conniff November 26, 2000 Steve Vrana (Aurora, NE) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
If I added in the nostalgia factor, I'd have to give this five stars. After reading through the other reviews it's obvious that I'm not alone in having grown up in the Sixties listening to this wonderful album and having this music so closely linked to my fondest Christmas memories. And as much as I might hate to admit it, I guess I've turned in to my dad when it comes to selecting Christmas music.Conniff keepts it mostly secular on this 12-track CD. The lone exception is the inclusion of "Grensleeves," also one of the few ballads on this album. For the most part Conniff keeps it cheery and bright with songs like "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "Frosty the Snowman." If you're looking for an album to lift your spirits, you can't do better than this. [My only complaint is that Conniff released several holiday albums and they all had running times in the neighborhood of thirty minutes--it would have been nice to see them packaged as two-fers.] My suggestion? Buy extra copies for your kids. [My daughter just took a copy back to college with her today.] Enjoy! RECOMMENDED
Christmas With Conniff December 3, 1999 Liz H. (San Diego, CA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This wonderful music brings back memories of Christmas in the sixties, my childhood and teen years at home. My broken record player leaves that favorite album of memories sitting. But, to have it on CD, what a treat! I have a friend who used to kid me, calling my Conniff album my "doo-wah" music, because of that repreated refrain in White Christmas! Memories, music and laughter are a just a few of the treasures of Christmas.
Absolutely the Best! December 27, 2004 carolyn (Canal Winchester, OH) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I too grew up in the 60s listening to this record, now for about 40 years during the holidays and it is just awesome. If you're not familiar with Conniff, this was released in 1959 and consists of choral music entirely. You really can't beat this record for sitting around the fire on Christmas Day and just having a great time. I can still remember being a young girl and sitting there dreaming of my own romantic Christmas wedding whenever I heard "Christmas Bride." My poor parents had to play this thing until it had a hole in it almost, and when I moved out, I purchased my own copy. It is one of the best and one of the absolute favorites of our household - don't pass this one by!
Not A Holiday Without This CD !!!! December 20, 2001 Paul A. Fucito (Washington, DC) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Every family has that one holiday album they play each year while making cookies and decorating the tree. This was my family favorite (and our old vinyl copy was nearly see-through we played it so much). The album, originally created for ballroom dancing, is perfect for swank holiday cocktail parties, baking cookies, or festive sing-a-longs. A familiar track listing guarantees that adults and children can sing together. The album also contains the PERFECT song for anybody who was married during the holiday or is planning on it, "Christmas Bride." I've never heard the song anywhere else, and it is the perfect holiday love song in which the chorus is asking Santa for a Christmas bride. While the CD may not be for everyone (of course, I'm a die hard 80's new wave and alternative rock fan and I love this) anybody who loves holiday music or vocal groups should pick this up.
Christmas with Conniff is Timeless! October 9, 2003 PATRICK J.POWERS (Duncombe,IA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The music of Ray Conniff at Christmas time ( or anytime) is superb! This has been a part of my Christmas celebration for many, many years. The C.D. version is of high quality with all the original Christmas tunes released in 1959. I especially enjoyed "Sleigh Ride", "Jingle Bells" and "Christmas Bride" All of the Ray Conniff Christmas C.D.'s (Christmas with Conniff, We Wish You a Merry Christmas Albun and the Christmas Album from the mid 1960's) should be in your C.D. collection!
