HOLIDAY Sing Along With Mitch by Mitch Miller & the gang December 3, 1999 Sharon Coyle (Los Angeles, CA via Manchester, NH) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have the original album on LP 33 1/3 and am anxiously awaiting the availability of the CD. It is a childhood favorite. I've listened to it every Christmas for the past 38 years and infact, learned every word to every Christmas standard thanks to Mitch. This collection still brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart every time I listen to it. The renditions are heart-warming, lively, and evoke such strong memories that I actually begin to believe all over again, there truly is a Santa. This album has the greatest renditions of all the old Holiday standards. If you enjoy the old fashioned concept of Christmas, hot cocoa by the fire, hanging tinsle on the tree, large, fluffy snowflakes under a moonlite sky, then make HOLIDAY sing Along With Mitch part of your family's tradition, you'll be glad you did.
Holiday party must-have album December 25, 2002 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a companion album to the Mitch Miller & Gang Carols. The songs are the holiday favorites such as "Rudolph" and other secular songs as well as a couple of carols. The singing is not stylized--just classic carols sung by a good chorus, extremely traditional. We can't imagine Christmas without playing this CD, which gets hauled out about a week before the holiday and ceremoniously played to start our holiday season at home. If you are having a Christmas party, this really is a must-have.
Holiday Sing Along With Mitch December 19, 2000 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
My two daughters are now 33 and 39 and they grew up listening to a vinyl version of this album. I took this album to a Christmas party and, inadvertently, left it at the home of the host. I was never able to retrieve it. I have looked for it ever since. After checking Amazon.com and finding that it was no longer available I had given up hope. Imagine my surprise when this very night we found it at Costco! I bought three CDs. One for each daughter and one for me. We especially love Must Be Santa. It is such a fun song! However, all the songs bring a smile to my face. The Mitch Miller version of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town and Frosty the Snowman can't be beat. I hope that this CD will become available for other families to enjoy. Finding this album (after not hearing it for several years) has just really been the bright spot of my Christmas so far this year. And, tucked inside is a folder with all the words so you can all sing along with Mitch!
Could be the greatest christmas album December 2, 2002 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This Mitch Miller HOLIDAY SING LONG WITH MITCH could be the greatest christmas album ever recorded. Ultra cheerful, ultra lively, and ultra powerful are the best ways to describe this christmas album (now cd, thankfully). This is also one of the most classic christmas albums of all time and one listen to it and you`ll know why. And just check out all the other reviews and you will know just how much of a christmas classic this album is. This album contains many great christmas songs, some which are the best versions of the song ever recorded, I believe. Great christmas songs are MUST BE SANTA (a great new favorite of mine), SLEIGHRIDE, WHITE CHRISTMAS, SILVER BELLS, SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN, I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS, RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, WINTER WONDERLAND, and LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, and all the other great songs. The cd has 3 bonus songs at the end, but it`s the first 13 songs that make up this perfect christmas album from 1961. There is not one song on this album that is not good. You never have to skip a song or two to get to the next good one. Believe me, they are all great. With the possible addition of children or ladies in a song or two, this album is done with an all-male chorus and these guys really know how to sing. They may be the best chorus there is. Amazing. And they sound like they had fun singing these songs and that they had a great time. Their voices really sound like christmas voices if you understand me. If you like Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, Ray Conniff, Percy Faith, Henry Mancini, Living Voices, and a few other chorus singing groups with christmas albums (cd`s), then you should like Mitch Miller HOLIDAY SING ALONG WITH MITCH possibly even more as this Mitch Miller is probably THE CLASSIC CHORUS CHRISTMAS ALBUM of all-time. And with the cheerful, lively, powerful style and song selection, this could not only be quite possibly the greatest christmas album of all time, but also the greatest family christmas album of all-time. Kids and adults both love this album and is perfect for any event at christmas, decorating the tree, opening christmas gifts christmas morning, etc... Again, quite possibly the greatest christmas album of all-time.
A great trip back in time- especially for baby boomers! November 17, 1999 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This collection will definitely put you in the holiday spirit! I have the original album purchased by my parents and couldn't wait for the CD. For those who can remember seeing Mitch miller on tv (and those that can't), he created a great family Christmas album that my two children have also grown to love. If you're a sentimental fool such as myself, while putting up the tree and decorations this year, play these tunes, forget about your worries, and be transported back to your 50's & 60's chilhood Christmas memories. This CD makes it a majical journey! I purchased 8 copies for family as gifts - grab it when it becomes available! Thanks Amazon!
