| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Jim Brickman's 1997 holiday package is all satin bows and glowing hearth embers, precisely the approach his romantically inclined legions would have wished him to take. Those with less sentimental ears might argue that at times the pianist's approach is a touch too sweet. "Joy to the World" would be more affecting as a solo work, for instance, and we could have done without the strings and music-box embellishments heard in "Angels." Yet Brickman compensates by delicately tracing a path to our heart-of-hearts in the album's two superb, nonholiday originals, "Fireside" and "Winter Peace." Three vocal tracks surface here: a breathy Kenny Loggins sings on the album's obligatory lullaby ("Starbright"), the female gospel group Point of Grace takes a bow ("Hope is Born Again"), and country vocalist Collin Raye performs a heart-clutching duet with Susan Ashton on the title track. It's not Brickman's finest record, but it's a very pretty one. --Terry Wood

A soothing, beautifully crafted mix of holiday music ! December 17, 1998 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have never been disappointed in a Jim Brickman CD purchase and "The Gift" is certainly no different. When I found the CD, I simply knew it would be wonderful. How right I was! This man is a genius with the piano and his renditions of holiday favorites as well as his own compositions create a perfect blend. It is soothing, peaceful and perfect for the holidays. It is my new favorite Christmas album!
A terrific fireside Holiday CD! November 22, 2000 C. E. Miles (O'Fallon, IL United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
"The Gift" by Jim Brickman is a wonderful Holiday music collection. Brickman does a great job of mixing some traditional standards with some fresh, new non-traditional songs. His talents on the piano are obvious, but his inclusion of the three vocal tracks really set this album apart. Contemporary Gospel group "Point of Grace" belt out the wonderfully arranged "Hope is Born Again" in exquisite harmony, and this along with the Top 40 hit "The Gift" featuring Collin Raye and Susan Ashton serve to compliment the superb instrumental arrangements. The only song I really don't care for is the far too breathy and quiet "Starbright" sung by Kenny Loggins. That being said, I have no problem recommending this to someone looking for something a little different to add to their holiday collection.
A Christmas Favorite December 30, 1999 J. Kash (Nebraska) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have many Christmas CDs and this is probably my favorite. I'm not that big of a fan of instrumental music, but the first time I heard this CD I knew there was something special about it. The arrangements are both soothing and contemporary. Sprinkled in are wonderful vocal selections from Kenny Loggins, Susan Ashton and Point of Grace. Every Christmas I try to think of someone I know who doesn't have it so I can give it to them. It makes, and is, a wonderful Christmas gift
Piano Christmas Classics November 17, 2000 Matthew M. Yau (San Francisco, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Jim Brickman had done us a huge favor releasing this piano Christmas album with familiar tones and non-traditional music. The album is a breakthrough from the traditional Christmas albums with pure piano music. "Joy to the World", "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", and "Oh Christmas Tree" are among the most popular Christmas favorites. Brickman also recorded new tunes like "Hope is Born Again". Duet "The Gift" performed by Susan Ashton and Collin Raye is yet another non-taditional favorite.
Exceptional Holiday Music! December 24, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This CD is the greatest compilation of Christmas music that I've heard in a long time. My favorite, "Hope Is Born Again" sung by the Contemporary Christian group "Point of Grace" really brings back the true meaning of Christmas. What a memorable sound for Brickman! His music is the best!
