Should be in every Christmas music lover's collection. October 27, 1998 25 out of 26 found this review helpful
What most people remember about the movie HOME ALONE is the slapstick comedy. Funny stuff to be sure but what made the film work so well was it's underlying drama. Director John Hughes set the story during the Christmas season to further exploit the drama of being seperated from your loved ones. For all the antics involved, HOME ALONE is first and foremost a Christmas movie. This setting gave composer John Williams the chance to write some of his most charming and festive music ever. The score is built upon William's lovely "Somewhere In My Memory" (lyrics by Leslie Bricusse) which was given a deserved oscar nomination. Here is a song that is a contemporary Christmas classic and should be a perrenial favorite. Here is an album that should be under every soundtrack and Christmas music lover's tree. It's one gift that is guaranteed to give years of enjoyment.
WHAT A WINNER! November 22, 1999 14 out of 23 found this review helpful
WOW THIS IS THE GREATEST CD EVER. FROM THE DAY I FIRST SAW HOME ALONE, THE ORIGINAL, I WAS INSTANTLY INTERESTED IN ITS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK. I FELT THE MUSIC IN THE MOVIE REALLY ADDED TO THE FILM ITSELF. SO WHEN I FOUND IT WAS FOR SALE, I SNATCHED IT UP IMMIDIATLY. I REALLY ENCOURAGE ALL CHRISTMAS LOVERS TO PURCHASE THIS GREAT CD BECAUSE AS WE KNOW, CHRISTMAS MUSIC IS NOT JUST FOR THE ENJOYMENT IN DECEMBER, BUT JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER AS WELL. SCORE!
Great Christmas Music November 3, 2001 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This CD is absolutely great! I love Home Alone, it is my favorite, and in my opinion the next best Christmas movie of all time after Its a Wonderful Life. It is my favorite Christmas movie though. If you were born between the years of 1980 and 1985, this is one of THE movies of your childhood (The Mighty Ducks and The Goonies come in around there too). This is one of the movies of the 90's that will always be remembered as a 90's movie. Anyways, the CD is great. I love the music from the movie. The main theme/opening titles is just wonderful, magical Christmasy sounding music, almost reminiscent of the nutcracker suite thing. Somewhere in my Memory is a beautiful origional Christmas Carol for the movie that almost brings tears to my eyes when I hear it (I'm a man, I can't admit to crying because of a song). The Christmas songs (like White Christmas, I'll be Home for Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, etc) are great classics. This CD puts together great Classic Christmas songs with traditional Christmas Carols, an origional Carol made just for the movie, and great movie music. Its a must have if you like Christmas music or are a kid from the 90's and grew up watching Home Alone on NBC every Thanksgiving as I have. Merry Christmas!
If you're a fan of the score... December 8, 2002 The No Evil Killer (Everywhere, Anywhere, Nowhere) 10 out of 16 found this review helpful
..then it's advisable leave this edition be and get the score to the sequel as it contains all the same themes only better. I'm not talking about the Album or the standard score release that has been available for many years. I mean the brand new Varese Sarabande limited edition Home Alone 2 score on 2-discs with a massive booklet containing loads of info about John Williams music. It may not have any of the classic Xmas songs on it that this CD does but fans of Williams will know that the score to Home Alone 1 and 2 will fill any house in the world with real Xmas cheer. The new double-disc set of the Home Alone 2 soundtrack contains every tiny little cue of music he created and even some unused themes. Though if you're not a serious collector and only want to put this on as your family tucks into their turkey then go right ahead and buy it. Any CD with such beautiful Xmas cheer is a good purchase.
Great music, in season, and out! December 18, 1999 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I must totally agree with the previous reviwers, about the beauty of this soundtrack. Much is said about Williams well known "Star "Wars", "E.T.", and "Superman" scores; but this (And the second one as well) beat all of them in my opinion. While the music in definitely Christmasy in nature, it is very pretty, and can be enjoyed all throughout the year. About the only Williams score I like better is "Jurassic Park", which benefits from a main theme that will never be beaten in beauty, and majesty, in my opinion. As for "Home Alone" though, I definitely recomend getting it, and "Lost in New York" as well. You will not regret it!
