Partridge's Christmas Card To You October 31, 2004 Music Fan-atic (Hogwarts) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Hands down one of the best produced Christmas LPs to come out of the 70s! The original vinyl LP jacket was made to resemble a snowflake dotted, green wrapped Christmas gift with the trademark free bonus Christmas card attched to the outside in a beautiful red envelope with green piping and a Partridge holiday crest on the flap. Inside was a single sheet card with a picture of the Family gathered around a Christmas tree decorating and enjoying each other's company. At the bottom were holiday wishes and copies of the actor's signatures.....great gimmickery but the true gift lay inside. A truly wonderful collection of holiday tomes opening with the Tony Romeo original "My Christmas Card To You" now a 70s holiday classic. The songs remain non-denominational as far as religion throughout with holiday greats such as Irving Berlin's"White Christmas", the over-exuberant "Santa Claus is Coming To Town", Cassidy's sexy and smokey-vocalled version of "Blue Christmas", the bubbly "Sleigh Ride", Shirley's lead vocals on the Nat King Cole great "The Christmas Song" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Try staying still during the toe-tapping "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" or "Jingle Bells". Beautiful duet of "Winter Wonderland with David and Shirley sharing leads and the unusual solemn-ness of David's slow version of Frosty the Snowman. This Christmas package is FAR from an ordinary, run of the mill Christmas LP. Each song has a unique take on the classic tunes and has softened the heart of even a Non-Partridgite! It is amazing how well these beautifully crafted songs hold up as a Christmas tradition far greater than most Christmas tomes from better loved artists. This is a must for any collection-Partridge fan or non-Partridge fan alike! You will NOT be disappointed!
Partridges at their best! November 28, 2000 RDJ (Spring Lake, Michigan United States) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
What a great Christmas album! "A Partridge Family Christmas Card" has and always will be my favorite Christmas album of all time. I was only four-years old when this album was first released, and it just wouldn't be Christmas without listening to "My Christmas Card To You," which in my opinion is one of the best Partridge Family songs ever recorded! David Cassidy sings lead on most of the songs, but as an added treat, Shirley Jones sings lead vocals on "The Christmas Song" and even does a duet with Cassidy on "Winter Wonderland." Each song is a gem, and owning this album on CD is like a dream come true. I guess there really is a Santa Claus.
CHRISTMAS POP PLEASURE November 8, 2001 R. Penola (NYC, NY United States) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Featuring many classics of the holiday season as sung by those terrific studio singers, fronted by David Cassidy and Shirley Jones, this album is a fizzy Christmas cocktail that everyone will enjoy. You actually get to HEAR Shirley on two of the numbers, and the original My Christmas Card To You, penned by the Partridge songwriter extraordinaire Tony Romeo (I Think I Love You and countless others) is a wonderful, warm, melodious addition to the canon of Christmas pop standards. The arrangements, as usual, are creatively charged, and performed with a lively kick.
It's the Best Christmas Album from 1972!!! April 28, 2003 Linda Donofrio (Reading, PA United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I defy you not to be "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" with this CD! This "was" "is" and always "will be" my favorite Christmas CD bar none. I still have it on LP and I love David Cassidy's rendition of Elvis's "Blue Christmas" because it showcases this beautiful man's exceptional, husky voice. "My Christmas Card to You" is a joyous, Wes Farrell-produced version of holiday sentiment ala crushed velvet and shag hairdos. I even will admit to loving "Sleigh Ride" and "Frosty" when sung by the sexiest man on the planet. It's nice to hear Shirley Jones on a solo "The Christmas Song" and the funky cover picture completes it. If you were a kid of the 70's and Christmas meant that several Partridge Family and/or David Cassidy LP's were under your tree, pick this CD up and dust it off every year! It is truly not a holiday at my house until David croons a little Christmas cheer! This album sold 6 million copies; it is their best selling album ever, believe it or not. Have a listen!!
Family Fun at Christmas July 10, 2000 Karen Tobin (Worcester, MA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Classic Partridge Family on Christmas classics--and one new song as well. The original is My Christmas Card to You by Tony Romeo, who wrote a number of the Partridge Family's songs, including I Think I Love You.Many of the selections are pretty much what you'd expect--Christmas songs with a typically Partridge sound--upbeat, with David Cassidy's classic pop phrasing, peppy back up vocals and occasionally the trademark harpsichord. There are several exceptions though, including a curiously ballad-like Frosty the Snowman, and four selections--The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland and Sleigh Ride--featuring Shirley Jones on lead vocals. It's been many, many years since I last heard this album, and I'd like to think that my musical taste has improved since I was 12, but I enjoyed this bit of nostalgia.
