The Best Live Album of All Time ! March 14, 2004 dakotamoviefan (South Dakota) 19 out of 23 found this review helpful
I purchased Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles Live on eight track tape in 1972 when it was first released, and I still consider it my favorite live music album (I now own the CD version). The brass sound that was popular in the early 1970's adds energy and pop to this live recording. I first heard the fast version of Evil Ways on this CD, and I still prefer it to the slower studio recording that is on the Santana Greatest Hits album. In fact, the first five cuts on this live CD are a wild ride. If I have a possible complaint about Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles live, it would be that it is too short. This is a foot pounding, energy induced, live album, and if you like Carlos Santana's music give it a listen.
Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles Live February 25, 2000 David H. Monske (Caseville, Michigan) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I, like many others burned out the wax and then the tape. I am so glad that this has been put to disc. I like the up beat tempo of Evil Ways and Them Changes. Also the jazzy solos of Hadley Caliman (sax) and Luis Gasca (Trumpet) were a pure joy to listen to. Anyone who is a fan of Buddy Miles or Carlos Santana should enjoy this album.

If you like the first three Santana studio albums as much as i do and think that the later stuff is well, crap, and that the new album gives santana a bad name, then loook no further. This album is one of the best live albums i have heard. It combines great guitar work with great organ playing and congas and especially great drums and vocals. Buddy Miles, from Band of Gypsy's with Hendrix sits in and sings a bunch of songs. My favorites being the relentless "them changes" and the twelve minute neil young cover of "Down by the River" that will leave you feeling like you just woke up from the best nap you've ever had. All in all, a great album by Santana and friends before he got crappy.
Buddy and carlos rockin and jammin-jimi would be proud June 13, 2004 Mrs. Julie French (Ipswich, UK) 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
I couldnt find this cd anywhere in england so when i went on holiday to Denmark i woz searchim around for some Santana(i wos really into him at that time), and i saw this cd.I knew Buddy Miles from the Band of gypsies album and knewq he woz superb, so when i saw this i fort id go for it.I was a bit put off by the fact it only had six tracks on it, but that woz before i had discovered that the last one was 25 minutes long.so i listened to it in my hotel room and thought that it wos fantastic and for the time being called it band of gypsies 2! The other guitarist Niel something is really good as well, and to be honest with you, i cant really tell the difference between him and carlos! I really hope Buddy and carlos are well, and i fink (sir!) Buddy should be proud , especially for playing with 2 of the greatist guitar players of all time...Ive already seen santana last year on their 'shamen' tour, but i also really wanna see Buddy and the blues berries in concert!!!!!! Tracks:1. Marbles-a great starter with some exellent playing on it from carlos buddy and niel. 2.lava- basickly a variation of marbles and a bit shorter-still great though! 3.Evil ways-a great live versoin featuring sax and is extended from the studio version. 4.faith-This is just an interlude but withe some superb guitar introductory from carlos and improvasation from buddy. 5.them changes-Dude! this is a version of the song Buddy did when he did band of gypsies with jimi- althouh the vocals buddy delivers need to be a bit more up to scratch-he screams too much in my opinion. 6.Free form funkafide filth-i listen to the whole of this about once every six months -it gets a bit boring after a while.Nethertheless still some great jamming on it. SO there you hav it...a great album that u should get right away. Now scuse me i need to go make some coffie and listen to this album.bye! Oh yeah and get the band of gypsies album while ure on amazon wouldya? thankx for reading my review by the way.
Live in a volcano ! January 7, 2005 R. J. Haynes (Teays Valley, WV) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I still remember the first time I heard this. It knocked me out. Carlos at his peak, Neal Schon and Greg Rollie sounding fantastic and Buddy Miles at the absolute zenith of his career. All of this LIVE! Get it, listen to it. You won't be sorry.
