No Major Dudes June 13, 2000 Tim Peeler (Hickory, NC United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This one gets three stars automatically for the inclusion of eight Becker/Fagen songs. However, don't expect a lot of inspired performances or creative interpretations of these early 70's classics. There are some, on the other hand, that are worth mention. The Wilco half of Uncle Tupelo does a better than adequate job with "Any Major Dude Will Tell You." And Brian Setzer's ability to bring the crowd to the dance floor is revisited in his rendition of "Bodhisattva." Ben Folds Five also manages to capture the original tone of "Barrytown," although it was not one of SD's better songs to begin with. Most outstanding is the upside your head version of "Reeling in the Years" by Marvelous 3. Just as this movie is about schizophrenia, so is its soundtrack. The new material by bands like Third Eye Blind, The Offspring, and the ever pathetic Hootie and the Blowfish is just the same ole same ole. Apparently, most of this bunch is passing their time in hopes that Carlos Santana (could he be the Bodhisattva?)will invite them to his next 90's hootenanny and therefore provide them legitimacy.

WELL, I dunno about the rest of the CD....but the Ben Folds Five song kicks some major tale around...and well, the Foo Fighters song is out as a single, an' thas pretty good too...so...yah, heh.
GOOD WORK June 14, 2000 Simon Alexander (Boston, Mass) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I REALLY ENJOYED THE FARRELLY'S IDEA TO CREATE SUCH AN INTERESTING RECORD. Wilco's take on "Any Major Dude" and newcomer PETE YORN's "Strange Condition" are the clear highlights of this strong record.

If you like steely dan ,you'll love this album. Todays hard rockers pay homage to a great band from the 70's. Pete Yorn is the man!
