I highly enjoy this album...fun one August 30, 2001 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I don't have the extra tracks cd. I have the cd with just the 15 tracks. This is a very hip cd. I wouldn't call it a deep album but a dance/club feel to it. I heard the new song "I'm Real" on the radio and I like that version much better than the one I like on the album. I love the funky beat on "Play". The song itself isn't much...about her wanting the DJ to play her song. But as I said, it's a fun dance/club album, as this is a fun dance/club song. My favorite track on the album is "Ain't It Funny" about a woman loving someone she just shouldn't and couldn't love but how much he changed her life...love the track and hit replay all the time to hear it over again. Another favorite of mine is Secretly...a very quiet and very relaxed track about 'her' wanting someone secretly. Wanting someone and picturing someone but not able to express it to 'him'. This is one of my favorite albums in today's music. I'm going to rate this a FIVE. I could easily listen to the album all the way through without a problem.
Just Another Way to Sell Albums... January 29, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
When Jennifer Lopez first released "J.Lo", I ran out and bought it, enjoying every single track. Now she rereleased it with the "I'm Real" Murda Remix. Since the single is not available for sale in the US, the only way to get it is through the internet or by combing the import bins. I will honestly say that I spent time combing the import bins rather than to buy the same album because it would've been a waste of money to spend money on the same album +1 song. That money was well spent on the import cd single that had the remix w/ Ja Rule, the radio edit, and 3 unreleased dance mixes. I'm really disappointed that JLo would do something like this to raise her album's status on the Billboard charts - especially since it began to slip before the rerelease. Any respect I had for JLo as an artist all but disappeared. This is all I got to say to JLo: "Great way of milking more money out of your devoted fans. And you said that love don't cost a thing. Was that a lie?"
Updated Review: It gets boring!! March 29, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
As much as I admire Jennifer Lopez, I'm afraid this CD gets old fast. The only one's worth listening to are "Love Don't Cost A Thing", "Play", "I'm Real (Murda Remix)" and "Secretly." Her voice gets annoying. She shouldn't try singing so hard. Just use it nice and lightly. I mean, look at how well Gloria Estifan used her decent voice when it was not exactly really spectacular. "I'm Gonna Be Alright" is another good upbeat song and the remix is just as good. The Rodney "DarkChild" Jenkins track "That's The Way" is boring and predictable. DarkChild hasn't produced a good song since '99. I'm not gonna even go into how bad the original "I'm Real" is. It really needed remixing big time...so call on Murda Inc! It sounds great! As for her next album she needs to work less on trying to sing like she has an extremely powerful voice (like christina has). Overall grade for J LO: C
Uptempo Friendly October 1, 2001 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
J.LO is more uptempo friendly, than the ballad heavy debut album ON THE 6, which in a way is good, but also bad at the same time. The album leads with the first single Love Don't Cost A Thing, promising but also somewhat repetitive. The second single, Play, is one of the best songs on the album, awesome vibe to the song that makes you want to dance and sing along. I'm Real is a promising song too, very Madonna like in a way, with her own energy. Jennifer Lopez may not be the best singer, but she makes good use of what she has. It's the material on the album that is not the best. Sure there are great songs like the latin influenced Ain't It Funny, Dance With Me, and the spanish songs, there are the great songs like the Darkchild produced That's The Way, or It's Gonna Be Alright, We Gotta Talk, etc. That's Not Me, borrows from the Destiny's Child type of music, with a fast chorus, not bad but repetitive. The album falls with the two ballads, Sincerely and Come Over, they are very difficult to listen to, her ballads from ON THE 6 were way more up to par. This is a fun album to listen to though, with lots of uptempo songs that will stay in your head, it's just the small places the album falls short. Still worth checking out though!
Best J. Lo album ever! October 5, 2001 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lopez and I think she's a very talented actress and singer. Sure, she may not have the best or most powerful voice ever, but she sure makes up for it in her music! J. LO is just a fun, uptempo dance album to listen to with your friends - perfect dance club music! This album is definitely better than the clean version because there are no cuts or bloops on the album. ON THE 6 had some good cuts (like "Let's Get Loud", "Waiting For Tonight" and "If You Had My Love"), but even I'll admit that it wasn't all that impressive. But J. LO the explicit lyrics most definitely impressed me! ON THE 6 was very heavy with ballads, I'll admit. But there are more upbeat dance tunes on J. LO.My favorite tracks on this CD are "Love Don't Cost A Thing", though I'm getting a little tired of it from the numerous radio plays; "Play"; "I'm Real"; "Ain't It Funny"; "We Gotta Talk"; "Carino"; "Secretly"; "Walking On The Sunshine", and especially the 'Murder Remix' of "I'm Real" with Ja Rule. There is so much variety on this album - there's a huge mix of pop, Latin, R&B, and even techno music. There are a few ballads - definitely less ballads than there were on ON THE 6. And most of it's uptempo dance music. I don't see how people cannot like this album - it's very fun, not really meant to be taken all that seriously. J. Lo might not ever win a Grammy for her music, but it's cool and hip all the same. Besides, the best artists and musicians never win Grammys, anyway (like the Backstreet Boys). So buy this album - it's a must have!
