J to the dancefloor April 6, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is Jennifer Lopez's third official album release and it's a remix package of all her eight previous hit singles and some bonus new remixes of album cuts from her last album "J.Lo". With 11 tracks in total, there is surely one to satisfy any music fan. First of all, there are a few remixes that were previously unavailable on CDs and they include Jennifer's latest #1 smash "Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix)" with Ja Rule & Caddillac, "Play (Sack International Remix)", "I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix) featuring 50 Cent, "Walking On Sunshine (Metro Remix)", it seems like Jennifer has reconciled her differences with former boyfriend P Diddy as they collaborate on a newer version of "Feeling So Good (Bad Boy Remix)" and finally, the simply constructed but touching ballad "Alive" snuggling into the collection at track 11. The five previously available remixes that are bundled up in this collection are a joy to listen to along with the six sort of new tracks. This album shouldn't really be seen as an album and it shouldn't be seen as a super maxi single because it's sort of like a mini remixed greatest hits of Jennifer's singles all bundled up into one. Looks like we can make do with this collection for the time being until J.Lo serves us with something new.Track listing: 1. Love Don't Cost A Thing (RJ Schoolyard Mix Feat. Fat Joe) 4.01 - can be found on the "Love Don't Cost A Thing" maxi single. 2. Ain't That Funny (Murder Remix Feat. Ja Rule & Caddillac Tah) 3.52 - the leading single from this latest release from J.Lo which also became her latest #1 hit. 3. I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix Feat. 50 Cent) 3.51 - an album cut from the J.Lo set given the remix treatment. It doesn't sound really spectacular, the beat sounds alike the So So Def remix of Jessica Simpson's "Irresistible". 4. I'm Real (Murder Remix Feat. Ja Rule) 4.17 - another one of Jennifer's #1 smash which was also featured on the new edition of the J.Lo album. 5. Walking On Sunshine (Metro Remix) 5.50 - no real enhancement at all and it's kind of long and with lengthy breaks in between vocals. 6. If You Had My Love (Dark Child Master Mix) 3.57 - though the title says that it's the master mix, it's actually the edit version of the remix. 7. Feelin' So Good (Bad Boy Remix Feat. P Diddy & G Dep) 4.26 - contains exactly the same backing track as the original except this time P Diddy and G Dep is doing the rapping instead of Fat Joe. 8. Let's Get Loud (Pablo Flores Remix) 5.29 - can be found on the maxi for "Let's Get Loud". 9. Play (Sack International Remix) 4.18 - newly remixed and thank god the [bad word] phrase has been edited out. Instead, J.Lo expresses her anger by singing "play my, play my, play my, play my song". 10. Waiting For Tonight (Hex Hector Momentous Radio Mix) 4.52 - also known as the remix video version. 11. Alive 4.41 - this previously unreleased ballad is a brilliant song that is surprisingly slow. It also allows Jennifer to display her vocal range and it's incredibly slow hence the long playing time. Overall, a worthwhile purchase with the two murder remixes along with the Sack International Remix of "Play" and "Alive" being the stand out tracks.
Much more than just aight! June 18, 2002 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
This incredibly diverse album has Jennifer Lopez veering through many different styles. From corporate hip-hop to songwriting-by-committee pop, Ms. Lopez really does have amazing artistic credibility. Combining her wondrous originality with her customary innate modesty, Ms. Lopez is sure to have a long, eclectic career that will be remembered by many people of discriminating musical taste. I used to settle for lame music like Wagner and John Coltrane, but Jennifer's musical genius and totally original dance moves made me think twice! "Let's Get Loud" has got to be, like, the greatest song ever. Maria Callas or Billie Holiday couldn't even try to outsing Jennifer!Remember though, it's not easy being this talented. After all, it's hard on a person to be this gifted. There's so many different corporate endorsements that a person like Jennifer has to choose from. Plus, think of all the different dresses she has to pick from: should she wear the awards show green dress that barely hangs on her or the obligatory bellybutton shirt and jean shorts? I just hope J-Lo can handle the artistic pressure and creative frustration that falls on all really great musicians.
total disappointment February 5, 2003 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have to give this 1 out of five stars, because I only liked two out of eleven songs. "Ain't it funny" and "Be alright" are tight tracks, laced with banging beats. "I'm real is ok too, but I don't like it as much because Ja Rule can't sing. The rest of the songs fall short of the original cd, I've only listened to the cd a few times, and wonder why I wasted my money every time I listen. The music on the other tracks don't accomodate J. Lo's voice, and sound like a bad blend of terrible buzzes and whistles and J. Lo's weak voice. I'm sure it'll grow on me sometime in the future, maybe with a few drinks or old age. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend purchasing the entire disc. You're better off buying the tracks that you like separately or getting them by some other means. ;)
How low will she go? September 8, 2003 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I must start off by saying that the album title must be the stupidest and most ridiculous title of all time.Jennifer lopez just like poop diddy cant create new material,so they remake old songs just to milk your money out of your pockets. These remixed songs are even worst than the originals.Has anybody noticed how she has to appear on the front cover of her albums. How original is that?Do yourself a favor and save your money on real artists instead of this garbage.
J.Lo Does Do It All,She Just Sucks At All Of It! May 21, 2004 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Ok,I admit it.There was once a time in my life that I (sigh) liked Jennifer Lopez(not J.Lo!)!But it was before she got really famous and became a sell-out and changed her name to the dreadingly annoying "J.Lo",so then I just started hating her like everyone else.Anyway...back to the review. This album, with stupid lyrics, weak producing, terrible vocals, and horrible guest appearances,is very useful evidence that J.Lo is just a talentless phase,as harsh as that sounds. This is album isn't a complete disaster,though,1 or 2 of the DANCE songs are worth listening to,these two being the "Walking On Sunshine" Remix that has an infectious latin/dance beat to it,and "Waiting For Tonight",which is almost as good as the original.Oh,and there is the only J.Lo song people are not embaressed to like,"If You Had My Love",and the remix is almost as good as the original. But,unfortunately, the rest of the album is just a formulaic pointless with, like I said, horrible guest appearances, especially the ones with Ja Rule(the obnoxious "Ain't It Funny" remix, the ironically fake "I'm Real" remix). And the remix of "I'm Gonna Be Alright" featuring incessantly mumbling rapper 50 Cent is the biggest sleeper of the bunch. And the lyrics:pointless, even when J.Lo is trying to sound serious. What I'm talking about is the biggest travesty in ballad history "Alive, where J.Lo tries to sing good.I know you're laughing,so I'll just give you a few seconds and let you catch your breath.........Ok,time is up.Anyway,J.Lo's singing sounds a little bit worse than the American idol rejects on "Alive",and that is just an understament!Another song that is just a waste of time is "Play",which definitely ranks as one of the stupidest and most idiotic songs in music history! And about the producing.Does J.Lo do this whole thing on a Play Skool music product? This producing is so shoddy, you really do wonder why J.Lo even is famous, especially in the atrocious "Let's Get Loud",which is almost as korny as the original! The Verdict:Just Stop It,J.Lo.Stop It Before You Become One Of The Worst Artists In History. Please!
