    1 out of 5 stars J to the ellO!   February 24, 2003

If ya know what I mean *wink*. Oh yeah, uh sorry, I forgot I was writing a review for this abomination of a CD. Ah, we all know Jenny makes the worst "music" on the block. She used to have a little, now she has a lot... yay... I really care too... man, the talent is just STREAMING from this young lady. J.Lo, how low will ya go? Hmm? I'm shocked. Ah, just read my stupid review for Nelly's worthless CD (which, by the way, has upset a lot of 9 year old girls, I think). So, yeah, check that out. I think you'll get the point. It's all the same. See ya.

2 out of 5 stars I Used to Like This CD, but Now. . .   May 8, 2003

. . .I'm not so sure. I gotta admit that Jennifer Lopez had me fooled for a minute. For two weeks I liked "This Is Me...Then" and thought it was her best album (which ain't saying much considering her last 2 studio records weren't all that to begin with). But over time, its flaws have grown more transparent than a strip of Saran Wrap. J. Lo ropes in Jadakiss for the disc's first single "Jenny From the Block," but it's hard to digest her claim to realness when you consider her ruthless diva demands that would make even Madonna seem low maintenance. The album cut "Dear Ben" has all the poetic charm of an infatuated 11-year-old, and the single "All I Have" (with LL Cool J) is as effervescent as room temperature Cristal. At least 80% of this album is just not working, especially her cover of the Carly Simon/Michael McDonald track "You Belong to Me." Eh, the song doesn't "belong" to you, Jenny. Aight, this record isn't a total bust. I fall victim to the guilty pleasure of the opening track "Still," and I can forgive almost any song that samples Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" ("Loving You"). But there's no denying the fact that "This Is Me...Then" is less an album than excuse to keep J.Lo in the spotlight. It's product that's more concerned about sales than whether it's actually good. And "This Is Me...Then," is not--let the truth be known--good.

    3 out of 5 stars Not what I expected!   December 4, 2002

I absolutely LOVED her J to the LO remix album and I like J.Lo as well, this new album sounds a lot like her first album (veru ballad friendly). Ballads don't suit her hip-hop image at all!
I think with her voice and persona, she's better off making a remix of this album. Half the songs are too sappy, they seem to all be dedicated to Ben. I like Jennifer Lopez, I think for someone who isn't THAT great of an actress or a singer, she's done real well for herself, but this Top 40 genre of songs isn't something she should do. PLEASE LET THERE BE ANOTHER REMIX ALBUM!

She has great marketing with little talent. Way better actress than singer. Perhaps she should have had Ashanti sing these songs too like she did on "I'm Real". Hope she will eventually take music as serious as she does her acting. Very silly songs and video. Now she's a hip-hop-urban street thug chick. I can't wait to see what she is next week.
