    4 out of 5 stars Jessica's Vocals Shine, Songs Don't.   August 27, 2003

There's no question that Jessica Simpson is very talented. She has a beautiful voice and can sing circles around Britney, Ashanti, and other pop stars. However, its the music which comes into question. I have enjoyed all of her previous albums. Filled with some great pop dance songs and soaring ballads. Her latest album In This Skin is another album filled with the same style of songs that were on here last 2 efforts. There's nothing new or groundbreaking that will make Jessica stand out and finally get noticed. With that said, I did enjoy this album for what it was. A typical by the numbers pop album. There are some great songs. The stunning ballad I Have Loved You. Certainly one of her best power ballads. Forbidden Fruit is a fantastic dance track and is destined to be a club smash with the right remixes. Underneath is another power ballad that is I Wanna Love You Forever part 3, just like on Irresistable there was For Your Love..which was Part 2. Underneath is by far the strongest, with its beautiful violins backing her up and her voice stronger than it ever was. You Don't Have to Let Go is another beautiful ballad about her father. Its stunning. Other than that MY Way Home sounds just like Jewels Intuition with its middle eastern feel, Sweetest Sin is sexy but not radio friendly and should not have been released to radio. In This Skin has a great message but is a little to radio disney for me. Jessicas talent remains in her voice. Sounding better than ever, she just needs some new and fresher material.

5 out of 5 stars Flawless "Skin"   November 25, 2003

I have been a Jess fan since the I Wanna Love You Forever days. I think she's great and find it to bad she has to play second fiddle to the Britney and Christina world. This girl really has a set of pipes. Her counterpart Ms. Spears computer generated voice pales in comparison. She also gives Ms Aguilera a run for her money, but unlike Christina Jess doesn't need to "strip" to draw attention to herself.
So here's the rundown of "In This Skin" Tracks (which Jess co-wrote most of the songs on)
    1. Sweetest Sin-(8/10) beautiful and sensual ballad written by Diane Warren. Jessica's voice shines through those high notes.
    2. With You- (8/10) i love the lyrics on this, very true to Jessica, great tune
    3. My Way Home (10/10) One of my favorites, i love the exotic tunes and creative lyrics, Jess really holds a long note at the end!
    4. I Have Loved You(9/10)Gorgeous, very well written, sung well, nice ballad
5.Forbidden Fruit (10/10) An upbeat dance track, very infectious beat
    6. Everday See You (10/10) A great song, it starts off kinda slow but it really speeds up and grows on you, i love the tune!
    7. Underneath (10/10) This is such a beautiful song, the violin is gorgeous in the background, her voice sounds angelic, the lyrics are very deep
    8. You Don't Have to Let Go (10/10) Another emotional song, tribute to her dad, very touching, beautiful music
    9. Loving You (6/10) This song really isn't my favorite, it has a very eclectic techno vibe to it but i found it repetitious and irritating
    10. In This Skin (9.5/10) A very uplifting feel good song, the lyrics are great and the tune is fantastic, alittle pop, some rock, some ballad its awesome!
    11. Be (10/10) Beatiful song, very contagious, somewhat slow in beginning but it picks up and the lyrics and music are great

Yes, this is worth it! If you are a hardcore Jessica Simpson fan or not. It is her best work by far. Very emotional and heartfelt, I sing along to it all the time! Buy it!

this entire cd was awesome. all the songs were sung beautifully. the lyrics are touching and you can tell they were written by somebody in love. "the sweetest sin" is one of the best songs on the album. "with you" is upbeat and fun, really good song. "my way home" is, in my opinion the worst song on the album. it has a country twange to it and sometimes it hard to make sense of the lyrics. "i have loved you" and "underneath" are two wonderfully sung ballads. they really show off jessica's voice and range. "forbidden fruit" is the only dance track on the album and it is a great song and with cool beats. "everyday see you" is another love song, this one with references to nature, again a great upbeat ballad. "you dont have to let go" is a very touching ballad that was written for jessicas father. the title track is a good song for self confidence. the upbeat music and fun lyrics make it a good song. finally "be" is yet another love song, this one predicting the future of a relationship.

overall this was a great third album and definitely the best cd jessica simpson has released!

I believe her fist album was her best work. She sings to shrilly for my taste and theres nothing really catchy about her. And after watching her new reality show even more disgusted with her.
