It's not "Hard" to make a good CD and JE proves that. November 19, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Ever since I heard their slow jam, "I Gotta Be", I have been a fan of Jagged Edge. Every time they come out with a CD they bring a good all around flavor of sensual slow jam ballads and a good balance of midtempo and uptempo songs. This time around there is no difference. "Hard" is the first CD where JD didn't really have alot of input as far as producing and composing of songs are concerned. However, it doesn't seem like JD is missed at all. Although, JD and Bryan Michael Cox, do produce two songs, "Visions" and "Shady Girl". "Visions" is one of the better songs on "Hard". The songs samples one of my favorite slow jams of all time, "You Are My Starship" by Norman Connors. In the song, Jagged Edge starts to question the intentions of a female that one of them is dealing with, when in reality she is just playing the game just like a man would do. You have to play the game for atleast a little while just to make sure that the male or female has the right intentions. "Shady Girl" samples Naughty By Nature's "Uptown Anthem" and should be a club banger real soon once a DJ gets a hold of the track. The 1st single for "Hard" is the stellar slow jam, "Walked Outta Heaven". This track is definitely up there as one of Jagged Edge's best slow jams ever. This clearly demonstrates that Jagged Edge has excellent writing skills. In the running for a close second is "I Don't Wanna". It's no coincidence that Bryan Michael Cox produces both of these songs. It seems that he and Jagged Edge have a good formula when it comes to making slow jams. "What's It Like" has Jagged Edge asking what's it like to actually be in love. The ladies will eat that one up real quick. "In Private" and "In The Morning" has JE spicing things up just as they did on "What'Ya Trying To Do" from their "JE Heartbreak" CD. Fans of their slow jams will not be disappointed at all. Even the title track will surprise you. As far as the uptempo jams go, "Car Show" featuring Outkast's Big Boi is clearly the best uptempo song on the CD. Big Boi has a fire voice and JE will have the folks bouncin' just like they did on "Cut Somethin'" with Ludacris from their "Jagged Little Thrill" CD. "Girls Gone Wild" adds some reggae flavor just as 112 did for their first single "Na Na Na". Overall, if you are a fan of JE's previous CDs (A Jagged Era, JE Heartbreak and Jagged Little Thrill), then you will not be disappointed in "Hard" at all. This is clearly an example of a r&b group with staying power. James' Top 5 1) Walked Outta Heaven 2) I Don't Wanna 3) Visions 4) Car Show w/Big Boi 5) What's It Like
Why can't we give negative ratings?? ill say -3 April 22, 2004 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
Jagged Edge sucks. R&B right now sucks (for the most part, anyway), just like rap. Every song on this cd sounds so empty, as they should. Someone sat out and wrote these lyrics wanting 15 year old girls to shead tears over them. I think the last song they made that I could actually stand was their first single back in...what? like '97? '98? They're so cookie-cutter it isn't even funny. They're a nice group, but I love R&B--REAL R&B, not this "thuggish teddy-bear" mess. When will it end, people?
HOT!!!! BUT NO CLUB BANGER???? October 18, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I GOTTA ADMIT, THIS CD IS HOT. I THINK THAT IT REALLY SHOWS JE TALENTS, AND CREATIVITY. BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR THAT CLUB BANGER THAT JUST HYPES UP THE CD AND GIVES IT ENERGY, AND I DID NOT FIND IT. JD ONLY PRODUCES 1 SONG, AND THAT WAS THE MOST BEAT WORTHY SONG ON THE CD. I LOVE JE AND RESPECT THEIER TALENTS SO IM GIVING THEM 5 STARS, BUT I DID NOT FEEL THE ENERGY OFF THIS ALBUM. IF YOU LIKE R&B I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM. ALL WE GOT TO SEE IS WHAT 112 IS GOING TO DO TO MATCH THIS.PEACE
Off the HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! October 23, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
JAGGED EDGE has done their ever-so-unique magic on us again. Can you believe that these hot men can continuously make a hit after hit. Well I can. There was no doubt that they would come back with something that is better than the last albums. If you really want to listen to some soul, and music coming straight from the heart, cop this album, you will never regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
