    1 out of 5 stars It's garbage   January 31, 2005

Kanye is the typical example of what happens when the media and MTV and radio brainwashes the American public and the consumers into believing that someone or something is the "next big thing" in rap music. In another few years, he (along with his pathetic attempts at rapping) will be forgotten.

1 out of 5 stars dumb hip hop for the masses   February 20, 2004

The fact that reviewers are giving this album five stars and claiming how it's a move for hip hop in the right direction just shows how sorry hip hop has become over the last decade. Maybe if I could only compare it to 50 Cent, Eminem, and Dr. Dre recrods, I might think it was spectacular too. But come on people-REALLY-this album is trash. Just because somebody is not rapping about "guns" and "ho's" does not make rapping about "sex" and "drug dealing" any more upstanding. But even more desperate than that is how West constantly throws "material things" in our face to prove how he's made it. The whole point of the album seems to be that those with money are "in" and everybody else is just some sucker trying to hold him back. The multiple 'drop out of school' and be like me skits are unfunny and downright stupid.
Man I remeber when people said that groups like Willie D(from the Geto Boys) were trash, but at least he had the decency to make a song called "Go Back to School". Kanye West has a whole nutha agenda. He would love for everyone to become uneducated idiots like himself. In theory, I guess it makes perfect sense-cause only a brain-dead zombie would spend $15 bucks on a cd like this.

Dumbed down for the masses-that's what this music is. Kanye's buddy Twista is in the same category. But don't think I'm just flat-out hating. I actually thought Twista's(tung Twista's) first album-RUNNIN OFF AT DA MOUTH-was good. But if you sat down and compared it to his new garbage, then you would see how these guys have spent a little too much time over the past few years listening to Cash Money and Jay-Z albums.

BRING BACK REAL HIP HOP> cause this sure as hell ain't it!

1 out of 5 stars Ladies and gentlemen I'd like to introduce to you...   October 5, 2005

The most over-hyped rapper in the history of mankind. Yeah it's Kanye Waste. Firstly I'd like to say his flow on all the songs IS FRIGGIN terrible. It's just totally off key and not smooth at all. I should know since I'm used to listening to quality rap like Run DMC and Public Enemy that actually have cool rhymes and more profound things to say and real skills.

Secondly, I'd like to thank you for encouraging all people my age to drop out of college. Now all the fast food restaurants in my area are filled with 20-year-olds working there saying the classic phrase "uhh do you want fries with that?" while trying to become rappers.

I also like how a previous reviewer said he's full of "self-righteous anger". That's exactly it, I couldn't have said it better my self. Just closely examine the lyrics. Ok I'm done complaining (but what else do you do with stuff that sucks?) and now is the part where I try and be helpful. If you want QUALITY rap check out - NWA, Public Enemy, Onyx, Tupac, etc. Basically anything pre-1996. Ahh I can already smell the non-helpful votes coming, oh well.

3 out of 5 stars Kayne West- College Dropout   February 10, 2004
10 out of 11 found this review helpful

Kayne West's debut album "College Dropout" (2004) is good but not deserving of all the hype it has received. Kayne West production skills have been excellent, so I was interested in seeing how his MC skills are. The problem I find when listening to him, is he is not a gifted MC, his lyrics are for the most part average, and the way he curls his words can at times be annoying. The high number of skits and filler don't help either. That said there are some highlights to this album, for me they are for the most part well chosen collaboration tracks like: "All Fall's Down" feat. Syleena Johnson, "Never Let Me Down" feat. Jay-Z, "Get Em High" Feat. Talib Kweli/Common and the hit single "Slow Jamz" with Twista/Jamie Foxxx (which was already released on Twista's album). By teaming up with some of Rap's talented lyricists Kayne provides some memorable tracks. One track that Kayne does shine on solo is "Family Business" an outstanding cut- deep, introspective, real and uplifting. Kayne comes off best on tracks like that , because he is providing something different, more then the typical cut you here today.
End of day this is an album worth checking out if your a Rocafella fan, from Chicago or just looking for some fresh music. 3.5.

1 out of 5 stars Finish your degree son   March 19, 2004

This album sucks. Mr. West is a cliche. His music is a cliche. What he says has been said before. This CD is only for the shallow minded. He needs to finish his degree because once people find out he has hoodwinked them, his career will be over. He is the poster child for the staement "ignorance is bliss"
