    2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed   May 19, 2005

Oh man..... Before this album System was one of my favorite bands... This new album angers me... first of all Daron sings WAY too much. His voice sounds like a drowning weasel when compared to Serj. Although his voice is a good addition in some songs, when he sings in every song... its taxing... The guitars, while okay dominate every song... the drums and bass are flat. And short.... 11 songs... 38 min.... why do you need 2 CD's for that many songs? why not put them on one CD? if they have more on the second song... why not release them at once as a dual CD album?
CAUSE THEY SOLD OUT.... DARON DRIVES A DAMN HUMMER
They really have destroyed my respect for them... which was great at one point... even their anti-bush anti-corp is getting overdone....
I swear if the new tool or pearl jam albums suck.... i'm commiting suicide

    5 out of 5 stars Now that's progress.   May 18, 2005

There are two things that are bothering me about some of these reviews I'm reading. First one is the complaints that the guitarist sings more. I personally think the two voices compliment each other perfectly. And he does write basically all the music and most of the lyrics anyway. So he has a right to do what he wants in my mind. And speaking of the lyrics, people seem to take things WAY too literally. SOAD's lyrics are VERY tongue-in-cheek. You have to understand sarcasm and metaphor to know what these songs are about. When they sing "put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care," they are more or less making fun of that phrase and the lifestyle it encompasses. I think that SOAD uses this way of writing better than anyone since Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. If you are a fan of System of a Down's socio-political lyrics and totally original music, check out Dead Kennedys, they did it first. If you are looking for literal straight forward, dim lyrics and tired pop hooks, you might want to try the new 3 Doors Down or Limp Bizkit.

THE SONG CIGGARO- HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST ANNOYING- HORRID SONG EVER- HOW CAN ANYONE LISTEN TO THESE VOCALS? I'D RATHER GET HIT IN THE GROIN REPEATEDLY THAN LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM- SYSTEM SUCKS

5 out of 5 stars Best album of the year so far...   May 18, 2005

I have no clue how people don't like this if they ever considered themselves a SOAD fan. The band is always looking for ways to push themselves forward and progress. To me that's what makes them so damn original.
As for people not liking Darons voice is another mind boggling thing. While I don't think it's as good as Serj's voice I do think it's perfectly suited and compliments him perfectly.
The lyrics don't make sense? Haven't all of their lyrics always had a healthy dose of sarcasm to them? Haven't they always been outspoken on some sort of political issue? If you really think they're just talking about Hollywood in a literal sense you probably need a little help.
Reading comments like this "Finally, I always thought that Toxicity's songs were all over the place, but man, this cd took it to a whole nother level. On some of these songs, I'm thinking, is this really the same song? Some songs, the actual song itself, sounds like 4 different songs in one. It's really bizarre to tell you the truth. They are going to have a hard time finding another single from this one." hurt my head. Damn them for being original, damn them for using weird rhythms, tempos, and time signatures. I highly doubt they care if they have another radio hit.
Overall I love this album start to finish and love that they keep progressing with each release. Definitely looking forward to the next release a little bit down the road. Very possible they could have the top 2 albums of the year on their hands.

    1 out of 5 stars F**K Darons singing   May 19, 2005

He is one of the worst singers I have ever heard. He needs to stay off the mic and just keep playing the guitar. He ruins pretty much the whole cd.
