5 out of 5 stars Amazing...yet soo far off and out   March 8, 2006

This is without a doubt, the best type of pop music i have ever heard in my life! Supernature portrays a different but pleasing ontake of music rather than the glamourous black cherry, or the mysterious felt mountain. Yes it's true, they're starting to sound a bit more like everyone else (although a bit over a lightyear away from it) however this album has a great and undescribably unique quality to it too!!

Somethings that do stick out as new and genuine would have to be the song Satin chic, or number one. Those two tracks are by far the most convienent things ever. closer to the much loved black cherry are songs such as You never know, lovely 2 c u, time out from the world, or perhaps even beautiful. If you can imagine those 10 tracks in black cherry with a little more of a musical maturity to it, then youve got something around supernature.
I think it's safe to say that they've pretty much summed up and said goodbye to any trace of felt mountain in this new album. however on songs like let it take you, and time out of the world, there is the faint voice of it, however it sounds more like a more electronic reindition of hairy trees more than it does a felt mountain song.
Alright aside from all that I'd say to anyone..,Buy this album if you are either a huge fan of black cherry, fan of goldfrapp. or perhaps even want a really, REALLY amazing dance album!! listen to this album once and it'll have you dancing all day long!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best double dips yet!   March 19, 2006

Importing this album at an earlier time, many Goldfrapp fans enjoyed what was and still is an immensely enjoyable album. In fact it's by far one of the best albums to be released over the past decade imo. Now just in time with the US release comes the DLX edition which is worth every pennie. Even for those who already own the album.

Besides the added bonus track "beautiful" which just makes the album that much sweeter, is the bonus DVD included. What makes this particular disc better than most is the enclusion of a DTS 5.1 mix of the entire album (excluding the bonus track). Considering most DTS mixes cost 2-3 times the price of this package, and don't sound anywhere near as good as this, it feels more like a reward and a thank you by the band for the fans. I encourage more bands to go to this effort in the future.

In the end for those who already own this album, do me a favor and give your copy to a friend and purchase this release. It's time to spread the word that Goldfrapp is the rebirth of true DIVA's like Shirley Manson and Madonna prior.

1 out of 5 stars this + black cherry = the 2 biggest disappointments of my life.   June 8, 2006

the days of felt mountain are gone forever! Long-live the trend-following(damn electro revivel), sleazy & uninspired goldCrapp they've become(OH! Except that just let it take you song...that one is the best song ever made) :) :) :! :! :( :(

4 out of 5 stars Great package   March 31, 2006

This is such a cool album, and the extras are really worth it.
I love the opening track, the Ooh La la, it sounds like modern glam rock with a cherry twist. I don't think this album is as good as the previous Goldfrapp outputs, some songs are on the bland side, and the lyrics are often kind of insipid or borderline silly, but the whole thing really works. The slow ballads are as good as it gets, and the dance numbers are great.
The bonus DVD disc is such a cool gift, these are not things that were left on the cutting room floor, but very good and tasty material. You get videos, photos, candid behind the scenes and all.
If you like adventurous pop with a nice kick, you will not be disappointed in Goldfrapp's latest release, and this bonus version is the one to get.

5 out of 5 stars Another fine Goldfrapp release   June 14, 2006

This is definitely a worthy follow up to Black Cherry. Goldfrapp is still exploring the electro/glam rock thing and it's never sounded better. Before discussing the music, it should be noted that the production is immaculate! It's definitely one of the best sounding CDs I've heard this year. Check out the bottomless bass on "Lovely 2 C U" or the vocals on "Ride a White Horse". It's almost worth buying the disc for the amazing sound quality alone.

However, this is also great music within. It's likely that some will be disappointed by the overall tone of the album. Goldfrapp seems to have largely abandoned the darkly cinematic tone of "Felt Mountain". There are traces in tracks like "Let It Take You", but the overall sound is more electro and pop. Don't let the "P" word scare you though. This is not the mindless pop music that we all love to hate. This is Goldfrapp subverting the techniques of pop music to produce amazingly catchy songs - songs that you can listen to again and again.

It's a shame that Goldfrapp doesn't make more of an attempt to keep the sound of Felt Mountain alive, but it's also nice to see them evolve over time. I feel that "Supernature" is their most consistent album to date. Literally, I love every song on the album. If you like Goldfrapp's voice, you'll dig this. If you liked "Black Cherry", you'll LOVE this. It really makes you wonder - Why did it take a whole YEAR for this album to make it to the United States?

I highly recommend paying a little more for the special edition with bonus DVD. There are some nice live performance pieces, a couple music videos, and a brief documentary. However, the Dolby 5.1 mix is easily the highlight of the DVD. If you've got the system to handle it, you'll love it.
