What a surprise August 29, 2006 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
I would first like to say - "What a suprise!" I really didn't think that this CD would be good but I love it. I played the whole thing staight and I love the beats, singing, and lyrics. I only brought it because I love the show and enjoys the singles that they played on the show (so I knew I would like at least like half). But to my surprise they were holding some of the good tracks for the CD and downloads. I think that this is a most have CD, the girls really did their "Thang". LOVE IT!
Nice Debut from Making The Band 3 Chanteuses September 11, 2006 13 out of 22 found this review helpful
Rarely are some TV show promoted artists truly credible, stand alone artists. It is arguable to some that American Idol's proponent to make some tween or twentysomething the next big thing is just not very realistic or credible. For those that take that stance it is difficult to embrace the music biz through the "vehicle" of television. The same could be said about Diddy's other groups spawning from the "platinum" making Making the Band Series. For example, first discovery O-Town tanked after their ignored sophomore album while Da Band is MIA. One could only hope that "third time really is charm" with Diddy's third "next biggest thing" Danity Kane. Overall, Danity Kane is definitely not the second coming compared to the superstar girl groups that ruled the 1990s such as Destiny's Child, En Vogue, or "goddesses" TLC, but it is certainly a step in the right direction for girl groups in general as well as Diddy as of recent tanking label, which is seeing a number of hits spawn via Young Joc, Cassie, now Danity Kane, and even Diddy making his return after a 5 year hiatus. Things are looking up and where quality is concerned, Danity Kane's self titled album isn't bad in the least.
Despite being better than your "average TV gimmick", DANITY KANE doesn't quite have the Destiny's Child vibe, but they do have enough sexiness to deliver a nice debut, which should easily compete with newfound platinum Pussycat Dolls. The album opens up strong enough with "One Shot" though it isn't a number that knocks you dead; you might even hope that one of the mega hits from the album was placed there instead. The uptempo "Heartbreaker" isn't the "saviour" to the ok "One Shot" ,but it is a nice uptempo track that would do well in the clubs if nothing else. "Want It" also isn't stellar, but it isn't bad and is only average at the very least. Again, "Right Now", the fourth track is in the same boat; it doesn't truly inspire, but it is a fine enough track.
The true hits of the album start with first single and the inescpable "Show Stopper", which should be a bigger radio hit than what it is. Sure, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 at 17 and peaked a week later at #8, but that was based upon downloads as opposed to a huge amount of airplay. It is a great choice for a first single and the cameo by Young Joc suits this track well too. A series of more "filler tracks" bombards the middle half of the track which includes two interludes, and the mediocre "Ooh Ahh" and "Press Pause". Steam picks up with the brilliant Bryan-Michael Cox produced "Ride For You", among my favorites on the show. A pleasant surprise follows through the well produced, fun "Touching My Body", one of the ultimate guilty pleasures on the album. Sure the last two "official" tracks "Back Up" and "Stay With Me" are fine, but not great. The true "showstopper" here is the exceptional Scott Storch helmed "Sleep On It", an instant classic that makes you keep hitting the back track button to play it over and over.
Overall, production here is fine, though it doesn't necessarily standout compared to some better production jobs in some instances such as the virtuostic work on Cassie's CASSIE or more recently the exceptional work on Beyonce's lauded B'DAY. However, stands out like "Ride For You", "Showstopper", and the great "Sleep On It" are production masterpieces and strong, strong tracks. I can't say that I was overly impressed by DANITY KANE, but I do think that if these girls are promoted right, they could stay in the business for a while competing right against the great Pussycat Dolls. 3 stars Danity Kane.

I really like this one... August 25, 2006 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have watched all three seasons of the show and I grew really attached to this group before they released the album so I was going to get it before I heard anything...Now that I have heard it, I love it! I haven't listened to anything else since I got it four days ago. All of the songs have a good beat and all the girls in the group are fantastic singers...It's hard to go wrong! Not including the two interludes, there are only two ballads but they are both beautiful (Stay With Me is my favorite ballad on the album, the other one is Ride For You which is the one that they performed and I think it was called the Village Underground on the show so that one it good too). The other eleven (including the bonus track of Sleep On It) has high beats, they're fun, songs I love to sing along to (though I don't sing as well)! Over all this is a solid album! I would recomend it to anyone who was even thinking about buying it!
