    2 out of 5 stars B for BAD   October 6, 2006

This album is definitely NOT good. I've read several reviews that claim the opposite, but I think those listeners could not have been listening with a discerning ear. There are so many things wrong with this album, I don't know where to begin. Oh, by the way, I AM a fan of her talent. I just wish she would have actually showcased some on this album.

A majority of these songs were poorly written, with trite, unimpressive lyrics. "Get Me Bodied" leads me to believe Beyonce's vocabularly isn't very extensive, with 'body' obviously being her favorite word. And the phrase "get me bodied" is so elusive that she had to explicitly state "get me bodied- that means come closer to me". . . When you have to clearly state what your phrase means, it's not a good one. I don't recall anyone ever saying "bling bling, that means my diamonds" in a song.

She relies too heavily on her producers on B'Day, when in fact, they don't bring too much to the table. Rich Harrison's songs "Suga Mama" and "Freakum Dress" have his signature sound alright, but not neccessarily in the best way. "Freakum Dress" sounds like it was supposed to be Amerie's songs, but once again, he gave her sound away. Swizz Beatz did a good job with "Upgrade You" and arguably "Ring the Alarm" but everything else falls short and actually are quite annoying. The Neptunes was a waste of money. Their songs are even difficult to recall.

I wish she would just sing and stop already with the screaming. I could pan this album all day, so I'll highlight the GOOD points.

She has some good ideas. "Kitty Kat", "Freakum Dress" and "Ring the Alarm" are very fresh ways of approaching a very trite topic. She gets many Kudos there. "Irreplaceable" and "Upgrade U" are single worthy songs, although the lyrics to both could have been better, especially the latter.

I think this is an album of a girl who has no direction and who isn't being true to herself. She needs to find herself, aside from what her parents expect and what her boyfriend would like her to be. Alot of these songs sound like Keyshia Cole should have sang them, simply because Beyonce was trying so hard to be "hood" (her exact words, actually, of how she wanted the album to sound). But we all know the only thing hood this girl has in her is her boyfriend, Jay-Z.

Back to the drawing board. She should follow her real daddy's direction next time.

1 out of 5 stars Let Your Talent Speak for Itself   September 15, 2006

Beyonce has become yet another pretty face that finds it necessary to promote her body and looks instead of her talent. Time and time again, she gives her fans mediocre music with simple, childish lyrics. This album continues in that trend. There was no time put into the lyrics or the music. Yeah, there are hypnotic beats, but that's all thanks to a machine. Since Beyonce is not a musician that plays and writes music, she should've considered taking her time to get it right. This album was rushed and it's obvious.

When Beyonce first appeared on the scene with Destiney's Child I was sure she would be a talent to be reckoned with. Instead she has become almost a caricature of herself. She sells sex, sex and more sex. Her AWFUL dance moves don't help either. The videos are tasteless and meaningless. I am so disappointed. I really expected more from her. Yes Beyonce, sex sells, but it should be more about the music. I could care less about the record sells or grammy's won. They are not always indicators of good music. India Arie is a great example of how you can not win the Grammy's although you make some of the best music around.

You go Beyonce. Keep selling yourself short! I am hoping that just as Christina Aguilera came around, you too will see the light and get Back to Basics!

    1 out of 5 stars Definitely Not A Classic   September 22, 2006

I love Beyonce, but I have to be in agreement with the other reviews. There are only 4 songs that are worth listening to, and even these seem to contradict her "saintly" image. I like the sound to Upgrade U, but when you hear the lyrics they are so materialistic and meaningless. Throughout the CD she continues to make references about buying material "things" for a guy, or keeping what material "things" for her self just so someone else won't have it (Ring the Alarm). Come on, how old are you? How childish can you be? That's not music -- music should touch your heart, bring out emotions that you have experienced; like poetry. This CD brings the music industry to a whole new low (Willing to Sell Anything). While listening, it is my belief that her boyfriend composed most of the lyrics. De Ja Vu sounds like she wrote it, but everything else sounds like it was designed for a rap CD. Before this CD, Beyonce was missing link to R&B. Now she is willing to sing about whatever she thinks will sell big, and that's not raw talent...I think this star is beginning to take a very big fall.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money   September 5, 2006

Beyonce, now I'm not saying that you shouldn't experiment with different styles, but c'mon!!! Some things just aren't suited for you! I hate "Ring the Alarm"! All you do is yell on this song! Instead of trying to keep up with someone else I know that has a brand new slammin album out now, you should taken out more time to write some decent songs. None of your lyrics are making sense on this album. You have to do better next time or better yet...just stop recording if can't seem to pull yourself together.

    1 out of 5 stars I Dont Like it!!!   September 7, 2006

I LOVE B..I have listened to her first album since she put it out about 3 yrs ago..I was looking forward to this album because I just knew it would be great and I actually liked Deja Vu (until I saw the video) but I have to say I do not like this album. I like Get Bodied and 1 other but that is only 2 songs out of 10. To say I am dissapointed is an understatement, some of the songs I couldnt even listen to all the way thru. I will not waste my money and buy this mess...I also dont like the fact that she says she recorded the album in 2 weeks and that she didnt expect to put out a album until next year, and after I listened to this album she really should have waited...It feels rushed and if she wasnt trying to compete with LeToya's album it doesnt seem like it. I got a email from her House of Dereon website asking to pre-order the album during the same week that LeToya's album came out, but that is neither here nor there the fact is the album is GARBAGE and I'm personnally insulted that she thinks she can release anything and the consumer will buy it...BAD BAD BAD MS.
