Not a Ture JLo Product April 30, 2007 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
JLo was well on the way of becoming the Marilyn Monroe of our time. But like all sex symbols, JLo has entered a phase where she wants to be a serious artist. So, she has released this collection of Spanish language ballads and marketed it as a return to her roots. JLo--how do I put this?--these are not your roots. Your roots are English speaking ballads and big dance productions with a hint of Latin rhythms. While this collection is actually quite interesting, it is simply not JLo. Que Hiciste is the highlight of the collection which moves at a somewhat slow pace. Many of these songs are good songs, but you just can't listen to one ballad after another. Really, would it have killed someone to add a few uptempo numbers? Without being critical, JLo's voice while at its best is a little weak on a few of the selections. In short, if your looking for Waiting for Tonight, don't look here. If, however, you prefer a few pleasant ballads (all in Spanish), then this will work for you. Hopefully, JLo will have gotten this out of her system and will move back to what she's best at.
WHAT A NICE SURPRISE March 28, 2007 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
J'LO DOES IT AGAIN. SHE IS TRULY A PUERTO RICAN AND VERY PROUD OF IT. SHE WILL BE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK, DESPITE THE CRITICS. THIS ALBUM IS VERY NICE TO LISTEN TO WHILE YOU ARE RELAXING. GOOD FOR HER, EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHES TURNS INTO GOLD. VIVA PUERTO RICO.
Gorgeous!!!! April 5, 2007 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
Why is it that people and the media wanna blast J.Lo any chance they get? They should remember that she's a REAL entertainer, & not one of those artists who try harder to become the next biggest symbol, instead of a well-respected music artist.
That being said. Como Ama Una Mujer is an amazing album filled with beautiful ballads, heartwrenching lyrics, and heartfelt vocals.you can really feel every deep emotion this album pours out. It would be hard to pick favorites, since every song on this album is a pure delight to listen to.
P.s. Jennifer, thank you for staying real, and not giving your self up to the mainstream crap that we hear these days
Solid Effort April 13, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Jennifer Lopez first Spanish album is a solid effort. She took a risk with this album, and I personally think it was a good one. Her voice is stronger and the songs for the most part are good. They are well written and good production. I still do not like the song I can't belive this is me. In english or spanish, this song is just too big for her voice. Overall though, big improvement. Way to go J.Lo!!!
A new side of J.Lo's music May 1, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this album precisely for the reason many other reviewers have panned it. No, it's not a rehashing of "Waiting for Tonight" or "If You Had My Love." Yes, most of the songs are ballads. So what? It's called TRYING SOMETHING DIFFERENT. I personally do not need to be barraged with more J.Lo. dance cuts. The title of the album is "How a Woman Loves" not "How a Woman Dances" and this is for good reason. "Tú," "Apresúrte," "Amarte es Todo" and "Adios" are my favorite songs not only for their catchy melodies, but because Lopez has allowed her voice to be front-and-center more than ever before. Sure, the canned audience in "Adios" is a little bit cheesy, but the song is intended to evoke a sense of yearning and camaraderie so it actually fits within the context of the song. Most pop artists are damned if they do and damned if they don't -- people either hate them for doing the same thing over and over or hate them for trying something new. It's always better to err on the side of innovation.
