3 out of 5 stars No track exceeds "average"   December 31, 2007
4 out of 5 found this review helpful

Usually when I listen to an album in its entirety, one or two songs outshine the rest of the album. Such is not the case with Virginia native Chris Brown's sophomore album, "Exclusive." Rather, all of these tracks are on the same page when speaking of which tracks are best. After the last song went off, all I could hear was all of the tracks combined. Nothing on this album shined; it was all average, typical rhythm and blues, and that's not good. There should have been a least one great song here. If I were forced to choose the best song, though, it would be the second released single, and the album's most successful song, "Kiss Kiss." Worth mentioning are the guest appearances by the rappers. Big Boi, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne and the Game are all featured here and they do a great job.

Chris Brown isn't an original artist. Much of the production sounded like beats I have heard before. Examples, you say? Well, "With You" (along with Rihanna's track, "Good Girl Gone Bad") sound like Beyonce's smash, "Irreplaceable." That song was so successful, and played millions of times, so why producers choose to continue to ape its production is very much beyond me. Further, "Take You Down" and "You" both sound like they were produced by Prince. "You" also reminds you of Elton John's hit, "Benny and the Jets." The lyrics on this album, well, let's just say they conform to the audience they were meant for, teenagers. They weren't impressive at all. Lines such as "You're like 28s on a Hummer, you're the number one stunner", "Look at the damage I've caused you, I know I broke your heart" and "Put me on your screensaver, all over your Myspace" further my point.

His talent as a singer is pretty good, but he does not have the best voice control. He needs to learn his vocal limit. When he does that, he'll be a better vocalist. He has good harmony and is blessed with a nice voice, but he did come into the industry of music very young, so it's only fair to allow him some time to capitalize his talent. His dancing is very impressive, and he's very handsome.

I recommend this album to teenagers and younger. They will definitely get more from this album than young adults and the older crowd. 3 stars, nothing more, nothing less.

    Mikeisha's Top 5

    1."Kiss Kiss"
    2."Take You Down"
    3."Nice"
    4."You"
    5."Wall to Wall"

5 out of 5 stars One of 2007 best Albums, haters get another job.   November 6, 2007

About 10 songs were 5 out of 5 and the other 6 was 4.5 out of 5. He came close to a new classic, but with his own style mix with old school r&b templetes, makes it easy for some to take it as a classic. And the scary part is that he is only 18... do da math!!!

5 out of 5 stars Chris Brown- Exclusive   November 8, 2007

Wow Breezy took my breath away with this album. Exclusive is the definition of what a complete R&B album in 2007 should be. And the reason this is such an amazing album is because it was made by a eighteen year old! An 18 year old Chris Breezy is making better music than a almost 40 year old R. Kelly. I have a strong feel that when Chris' career is over with which wont be for a very long time, we will look back and this will be considered his best album. Just like his comparison Michael Jackson, his second album was his best as well. This album is just so well rounded it blows my mind that a teenager made such a complete album that anyone can listen to and like. I mean he brought in ALL big name and very successful producers such as B. Cox, the trendy will.i.am, single makers Stargate, club banger Scott Storch, and the best of all the Underdogs who in my opinion were the best on this album. Every song of theirs on this album was a standout. My favorite being the heartfelt ballad "I Wanna Be" which every guy can relate to, the typical i wanna be your man but she only wants me to be her friend song, but done perfectly. And then another huge surprise was the song "Take U Down" which is a grade A baby maker done by a 18 year old, again produced by the Underdogs. Then there is the sure to be club smash "Help Me"... let me be the first to tell you this beat will really make you wanna dance and you will be playing this song over and over and over again to hear this beat, again produced by the Underdogs but this song was a little out of their boundaries but the still nailed it showing how versatile they truly are. Another standout in my mind though is the feel good track "Down" which is actually a bonus cut but i dont understand why, but this track was produced by none other than Kanye West. I am sure this will be a fan favorite because this is a track that every one will like. I mean Chris has it all going for him, a stellar voice, even better danceing skills, and writing game that is improving by the minute. He is the complete package and he will surely be around for a while, and this album helped lock his spot in R&B royalty. Compared to his last album, he has matured so much, and another thing i love about this album is that notice how everyone is waiting on Usher to drop his new album? If u listen to this album, it sounds like an album Usher would have done a couple years back only better. I consider this to be the Confessions of 2007. So trust me its worth buying, ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!

This CD was okay at best, I mean aside from Kiss Kiss, do not expect much!
Many of these songs were a mature step up that Chris's voice could not accomodate for: (Take You Down),(Damage), It was kind of hard to take it seriously!! The cameo appearances did little at best for this CD. I think a little more preparation should have been taken before this Exclusive was released!!!

2 out of 5 stars Get at Kiss Kiss, Wall to Wall, With You & Down and Take You Down....   December 17, 2007

Legally or illegally, I don't care at all. Just get them: Through ITunes or Limewire, Morpheus, Bearshare, IMesh, Soulseek or Ares. Doesn't matter.

He's got talent, especially in the dance category but this album is lacking, lacking, lacking and lackluster.

I thought I wanted to buy this but after hearing about 7 or so of the tracks here, I am sorely disappointed!

With You is by far the best song here. It's a very cute/cool midtempo about young love and it surpasses Young Love on his first album.

Down, Kiss Kiss and Wall to Wall aren't as good but are still pretty solid. NOTHING else here stands out. No joke...I'm just glad he's writing like an artist would. Big ups, Chris. Let's hope for an even better album in early 2009, hopefully.
