5 out of 5 stars Muy Bueno Gloria!   September 19, 2007

While my spanish is limited - my adoration of Gloria is not, she makes you want to get up off your a** and dance with these great tunes! From start to finish she has put together an cd of great songs, great guest musicians, and while it's totally in Spanish - I don't care - it's great music and that is what counts....KUDOS to you Gloria and Company! Me gusta mucho y gracias!

1 out of 5 stars Typical Gloria Estefan   September 30, 2007

Cuban music is filled with rhythm... not the same can be said for Gloria's latest attempt at getting back to her Cuban roots. All the songs in this CD sound the same and with so many talented musicians helping out on this CD, it's a real shame that Gloria didn't get someone else to sing the songs. The titles of the songs caught my eye, and I listened intently, wanting to be moved by her Cubanism, but her talent just fell short. Better stick to pop music Mrs. Estefan and leave Cuban music to other talented Cubans.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful & full of great rhythm.   October 1, 2007

I am really surprised at the number of bad reviews on amazon regarding this CD. If you don't like Gloria, then obviously you're not going to like a Gloria Estefan album. In my opinion, this album is EXCELLENT, and definitely a high-quality latin dance album. There's an authentic flavor to the rhythms and sounds in each track.

With comparison to current trends in the salsa/merengue music world, it retains a more classic or traditional style, and for the most part could have probably been recorded in the 1960s before tech-ed up remixes were around. The only exception really is in the remix of "No Llores"...which is a bonus track on some versions of this CD.

If you liked "Mi Tierra," I'd safely bet that you will LOVE this album. It has great tracks that, if she had released this and Mi Tierra together, they would transition almost flawlessly back-to-back. The feel and the rhythms have that same flavor of Mi Tierra, with a little less violin/classical strings. The CD is very heavy on its Afro-Cuban/Cuban roots, so it's definitely a great CD to partner dance to.

A side note to the review that cites all of the other artists from other countries...that's nice, I'm glad you have an opinion. However, don't think you can speak for all of Latin America (myself included). Btw, Hector Lavoe is from Puerto Rico (/New York...one of the birthplaces of Salsa), so I don't get the whole Peru tie-in...and you kind of left out Celia Cruz (= BIG DEAL) among many others (Tito Puentes, Johnny Pacheco, and the list goes on). Gloria & Emilio also produce tracks for many of today's popular artists, Shakira included. They're kind of a big deal in the Latin music industry bro...sorry, but you're being ignorant to criticize Mi Tierra and Gloria like that w/o taking into consideration their contributions to the world of Latin music and how they've helped spread the Hispanic musical heritage across the globe.

3 out of 5 stars Mi Tierra - Alma caribena, que mas ?   September 30, 2007

well, she sings perfectly well, music behind is really serious, it grooves, the tunes sounds ok, but...it is just the remake of "alma carribena". this LP "alma carribena" was a logical following, and slightly different than "mi tierra", so it brought something new, interesting. This new one sounds ok, but it is just a remake (but anyway much better than unwrapped !)

if it is the first time you hear Gloria in this context you love it.

pero si te gusta gloria, lo compraras !

    3 out of 5 stars Just O.K.   September 30, 2007

This album sounds like less exciting retreads of Mi Tierra and Alama Caribena. The Title Track just sounds like Carlos Santana with Gloria as Guest Vocalist.
The Best song is Negrita. The production by the Drop Dead Beats guys, really puts a modern twist on the music. Should be the next single!
I need to listen to it some more to see if some more songs catch on.

    Love you Glorita.
